6 Tips To Get The Most From An Invisalign Treatment

Does your smile need a little bit of tuning? If you don’t like the look of traditional braces, don’t worry, because there’s a more convenient and faster way to ensure a perfect form of your teeth - Invisalign.

While this type of treatment works wonders, if you fail to keep up with maintenance and a few tricks and tips from experts, it won’t provide you with the results you’re looking for. So in order to get the most out of your investment, here are the six top tips on how to wear your Invisalign.

Wear them to the max

Obviously, if you want your treatment to work, you need to wear your Invisalign as much as you can. For the best results, wear your aligners at least 20 hours a day, removing them only during mealtime or when playing contact sports. If you want, you can even wear them while playing sports, but make sure to grab a set of mouthguards to keep your teeth and your aligners safe and sound.

Use chewies

In order to obtain the best results from your Invisalign, your teeth need to fit perfectly in each aligner or tooth “mold” before you move to the next set of aligners. There shouldn’t be any air gaps between your aligner and the tooth, otherwise, the process won’t work perfectly and quickly.

If you notice gaps, make sure to use chewies - small cushions made of Styrene Copolymer. Chew on these little cylinders for five to 10 minutes a few times a day to help your teeth get set in the aligner perfectly. With this exercise, you will most likely finish your treatment on time.

Change aligners on time

If you choose the right specialist, they are going to put you on a schedule of when you should switch to a new set of aligners. Experts from Orthoworx usually issue three or four sets of aligners per appointment to allow your teeth to move gradually and painlessly into the right position. Make sure to follow their advice and don’t wait a few more days to switch to a new set or ditch your old set early - this can only harm your overall progress.

Floss and rinse daily

Taking good care of your teeth and your oral cavity is crucial for Invisalign treatment, so make sure to rinse and floss every day. While most people remember to only brush after a meal, it’s also important to rinse thoroughly to loosen all the food particles and use floss to dislodge all the food stuck between your teeth.

Also, don’t forget to use a non-alcoholic rinse separate from your brushing routine. Here’s an example, use a mouthwash and floss after dinner and brush before bed.

Invisalign is the replacement for your teeth for the next few months, so treat them like your real teeth and take good care of them. They are generally easy to clean - you only need warm water and antibacterial soap (or specialized products for plastic orthodontics). Don’t use toothpaste directly on your aligner, because it can scratch the plastic.

Embrace attachments

Some orthodontists recommend attachments or buttons with Invisalign to make the treatment faster and more effective. These attachments hold aligners in place, move teeth, and can help with the treatment of many cases where normal aligners can’t be used.

Attachments are small dots (usually tooth-colored) made of bonding material placed at strategic locations on the tooth to put enough force in the right place and pull the tooth into alignment.

Don’t toss out your old aligners

Here’s a great tip not many experts remember to state: when you’re finished with a set of aligners, don’t toss them out just yet. In case your current set breaks or gets lost, you will have a backup set to use while you wait for the replacement.

Even though not completely fitting, your old set will still prevent your teeth from getting misaligned. When your replacement set arrives, listen to your doctor’s advice on how to continue forward.

Your journey towards a new smile will take time and effort, but if you establish a good oral hygiene routine together with a good Invisalign schedule, you will enjoy your journey and get to your destination safely and quickly. When you finish your treatment, you will be greeted with a smile of your dreams!
