Photographs abound in the age of social media, and you likely find yourself in at least a handful of pictures. However, you may notice that you tend to keep your mouth closed, or you may entirely avoid as many pictures as you can. When crooked teeth are a problem, consider the multiple options that you have for resolving the issue.

Traditional Braces

Perhaps you had braces back when you were growing up but then did not wear your retainer. Do also keep in mind that braces have improved since several decades ago. In other words, do not allow a past failure with braces to keep you from trying this method again. Upon meeting with an orthodontist, you may learn that traditional braces offer the best solution for your teeth.

Alternatives To Braces

Since braces first came into existence, alternative options for them have manifested. For example, you might opt for braces that are invisible on your teeth. When you’re concerned about metal brackets joining in on every photo, this option can prove quite suitable. Another possibility is to get braces that allow the brackets to go on the back of your teeth. When you are concerned about people seeing the braces, you do have options.

New Teeth

Depending upon the severity of the condition, you may also opt for a new set of teeth. This possibility can happen in a few ways. For example, you may need implants to fill in missing teeth, or you might require an entirely new set of teeth. Some people will start to wear dentures so that they have straight teeth. Working with a high-quality dentist who specializes in this field is advisable.

Retainers

Your orthodontist may require you to wear a retainer for a certain period of time or the rest of your life after you get the braces. Make sure that you actually wear this device. Failure to do so could mean that you end up having to get braces again because your teeth return to their crooked state. Your orthodontist may also suggest wearing a retainer and not having braces at all. This situation is not the most common one as retainers are typically designed to be worn after having braces, but it could happen.

Desiring a straighter smile is a situation that many people find themselves in. Fortunately, you don’t have to keep hoping for this type of smile. Instead, you can schedule an appointment with an orthodontist to discuss these options and others.
