4 Lifelong Signs That You Have Weak Teeth

Just as genetics play a role in our hair color, eye color, and physical build, they also play a role in the overall strength of our teeth. Some are born with strong teeth while others are born with weak ones. When it comes to your teeth, there are some signs that can reveal to you that you have generally weak teeth. It's important to understand these signs so that you can talk with your dental health professional about mitigating potential problems with your weak teeth going into the future.

Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity can be extremely painful. Most people's tooth sensitivity varies depending on the foods and drinks that they're consuming. Some common instances that intensify the sensitivity of the teeth include sweets, hot drinks, and cold drinks. Those with extremely sensitive teeth will feel a sharp pain in their teeth when they attempt to consume these foods and drinks.

Cracked Teeth

One signature sign of weak teeth is constant cracking and chipping. Those with weak teeth should avoid hard foods as they can cause major damage to the teeth. These individuals are at high risk for needing corrective dental work including dental crowns, inlays, and dental implants.

Cupping

Another common issue that people with weak teeth tend to deal with is cupping. This occurs when indentations that look like cups start to appear on the surface of the teeth. Over time, the front of the teeth will start to become more translucent near their edges as the tooth enamel fades away. In severe cases, the indentations can start to erode the entire inside of the tooth.

Discoloration

Those who are born with weak enamel are more prone to tooth discoloration. Over time, the teeth will take on a yellowish color as the dentin below the tooth's enamel starts to show through. The teeth are only white when there is a sufficient amount of enamel present on the teeth.

Having weak teeth is something that you may have been born with. In most cases, weak teeth are generally known as those that have weak enamel coating on them. As you can see, there are four main indications that you have weak teeth. If you're experiencing these common signs of tooth weakness, it's time to speak with your dental health professional. You should be coming up with a plan to help reduce your risks of further developing these issues as time goes on.
