We have often heard that health is wealth. It certainly is. To keep yourself healthy, you need to stay away from infections and diseases, as well as have a robust immune system. Unfortunately, some conditions are silent, and they progress silently in your body until they have harmed a significant part of your body.

For this reason, it is essential to have annual and biannual health check-ups to check if everything is alright in your body. These elements are an issue as they affect your quality of life and can slow you down and bring about more negative consequences that continue to increase over time. Here are four types of health check-ups you should complete annually.

Blood Pressure Screening

At times, when we don’t feel good due to some minor health issue such as headache, migraine, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, we tend to take regular medicines as a temporary cure measure for these diseases. However, these diseases may be due to some underlying cause.

Often migraines and headaches don’t just happen, and there is always a cause behind it. Hence, an annual blood pressure screening is mandatory. According to the American Health Association, AHA, you should have your blood pressure checked annually starting from age 20 if it falls below 120/80 mm Hg.

Cholesterol Check

A cholesterol check-up is one of the most critical health check-ups one should have. It gives you an idea if you are prone to cardiovascular diseases, also known as heart diseases. Your cholesterol should be less than 200 milligrams per deciliter. If you are obese and believe that you don’t follow a healthy lifestyle, this is one of your most critical health check-ups.

Mammograms

The incidence of cancer is increasing day by day globally; in women as breast cancer. A mammogram is a screening test for breast cancer. It involves capturing the X-ray image of the breast to check for any metastatic cells capable of becoming a cancerous tumor. Women should have a mammogram annually starting from the age of 45.

Bone Density Screening

As we age, our bones become weak and soft. Especially women are prone to low bone density due to menopause which gives rise to body conditions such as osteoporosis. From the age of 50 or above, you should have a bone density screening test annually to prevent bone softness and decreased bone density which makes you prone to fractures.

Eye Exams

You might not think much about the importance of eye exams, however, they can tell you a lot about your health. There are several common eye conditions that can manifest themselves as you age. It is especially important to visit an eye care center each year if your family has a history of conditions like glaucoma or cataracts.

It can be easy to ignore your health as you go through your busy life, however, there are certain screenings that need to be done annually. Remember the above five health screenings to schedule this year.
