Tips For Strengthening Tooth Enamel

Most of us take our tooth enamel for granted and presume that once it's there then it will carry out its job as it should. But unfortunately for us, tooth decay and gum disease are not the only problems we need to be on the lookout for.

Here are some of the telltale signs to watch out for:

Tips and edges of teeth are whiter than the rest of the tooth - This indicates that the tooth is in fact thinner at the tip as the enamel has deteriorated.

Teeth with rounded tips or edges rather than the usual square edge - This happens when the corners chip away while eating due to weakness caused by enamel loss.

Teeth become more sensitive as enamel is worn away - This is particularly true if all your teeth are feeling sensitive rather than one or two.

Cracking teeth - If your teeth are starting to show visible signs of cracking then you are almost surely suffering from enamel issues and you should see your dentist immediately.

If you experience any of the symptoms above then a trip to your dentist can set your mind at ease, but even if your teeth are in perfect health it's always good to try to strengthen and re-mineralize your tooth enamel. Here are some handy tips to help you do just that.

Maintain Adequate Levels Of Vitamin D, Vitamin K2, And Vitamin C In Your Diet

Vitamin D is an essential ingredient in the manufacture and maintenance of tooth enamel. Fatty fish, cod liver oil, and egg yolks are great sources of vitamin D.
Vitamin K2 encourages mineralization and aids bone growth. Vitamin K2 can be found in hard cheeses, high vitamin butter oil, egg yolks, and chicken liver pate.
Vitamin C helps to maintain healthy gums and as we all know healthy gums mean healthy teeth and a strong foundation is half the battle in the war on tooth decay. Bell peppers, strawberries, and broccoli are good sources of vitamin C.

Cook True Bone Broths

There is no better source of calcium than true bone broths. Adding these to your diet can really help the re-mineralization process and encourage enamel growth and production and it's also great for your bones.

Sea Salt

Traditional sea salt as opposed to regular processed table salt is high in many trace elements that are essential in the re-mineralization of tooth enamel. Switching from table salt to sea salt is a very small step to make that yields significant benefits.

Encourage Saliva Production

Most dentists will recommend chewing a sugar-free gum to encourage saliva production as saliva helps eliminate the bacteria present in your mouth by coating your teeth, which is always of benefit to tooth enamel. But be sure to choose gum that doesnt have artificial sweeteners like aspartame.

Oil pulling is also another method that can be done after brushing your teeth. This cleaning method stimulates the salivary glands.

Tooth enamel issues are most often linked to mineral absorption or dietary issues and a dentist will often suggest a change in your diet to help solve these problems. Studies indicate that people who suffer from Celiac disease, food intolerances, or any health problem that leads to nutrient absorption issues are most at risk of tooth enamel de-mineralization and should pay particular attention to the condition of their teeth. However tooth enamel problems are not limited to those of us with health conditions, and regardless of our dental health we should all try to maintain a balanced diet which promotes healthy teeth, gums, and tooth enamel.
