You don't have to spend the majority of your day outdoors to suffer from allergies. Many allergens can get inside your home and cause all the allergy symptoms you hate without you even knowing or being aware of the source. If you find that your allergy symptoms continue even when you've been inside for a while, then you may have allergens inside your home.

Here are some signs to look for that can indicate indoor allergens.

Symptoms Worsen or Continue During Winter Months If You Have Allergens Inside Your Home

When allergy symptoms continue or worsen during winter months and there's no pollen or little dust outside, it could indicate indoor allergens such as mold, dust, and other debris that has accumulated around your house.

One of the main culprits responsible for harboring indoor allergens is your heating and cooling system's ductwork. Have your ductwork cleaned at least once a year to prevent the build-up of dust, mold, and other allergens.

Increased Asthma Symptoms If You Have Allergens Inside Your Home

If you or anyone in your household has asthma and tends to worsen when you're at home, you could have some mold build-up somewhere in your home. Basements and attics are susceptible to mold growth because they often have high humidity, low light, and moisture.

Mold thrives in these conditions. Mold spores can trigger asthma attacks and cause allergies to flare up. Have your home inspected for mold, and make sure there are no water leaks in bathrooms, basements, and other areas of your home where mold can grow and thrive.

Roach and Other Insect Parts If You Have Allergens Inside Your Home

Insect parts and droppings can contribute to allergies. Sometimes it's difficult to see if you have a cockroach problem in your home. You have to look closely and inspect cabinets, kitchen drawers, and underneath appliances to be sure you don't have an insect problem.

Body parts of roaches and other insects are a sign of an indoor allergen. Deep clean your home once a year and perform regular cleaning in areas where roaches like to hide. The kitchen is a key area where roaches prefer to hide and make their home. It's also a good idea to use an exterminator regularly.

Indoor allergens don't have to make your life at home a misery. With some regular cleaning and maintenance, you can eliminate most indoor allergens and keep your living space free from the things that can trigger allergy and asthma attacks. Speak with your allergy specialist to determine what you're allergic to and make a plan to eliminate them from your home.
