How have you been feeling lately? Do you think you're at your best? If not, you're far from alone. It's common to feel that something's just not right, and even more common to not have a clue what it could be. If this hits close to home, now's the time to find out what's going on.

There are so many ways to go about this. Whether it's through blood work, saliva testing, or functional measures, digging deeper into the workings of your body has never been easier. Here are six things to consider doing while on your quest to feel better.

1. Thyroid

One of the best places to start when you're not feeling right is your thyroid. Are you aware of the signs that yours might be struggling?

If you're experiencing symptoms such as anxiety or depression, constipation, hair loss, or cycle irregularity, consider having functional medicine blood tests run to determine the cause. There is a long list of possible symptoms of thyroid disorders, making blood work a must.

It's important to understand the difference between basic thyroid labs and functional blood tests, especially when your goal is to get to the root of whatever is going on. You want the most comprehensive report possible, which will allow you to develop a plan of treatment that works.

2. Liver

The liver is another one of your body's most important organs. It also takes a lot of abuse, and you might not even realize you're harming it. However, it's simple to improve its function.

Wondering what some of the telltale signs are that your liver needs some love? Maybe you're noticing an increase in acne, or you've recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. There are also a few other common hints your body will give you that will let you know it's time for some testing.

3. Blood Pressure

When was the last time you had your blood pressure taken? For many, it might only happen a couple of times a year. Others might have it checked more regularly due to a hypertension diagnosis or out of caution.

Knowing your blood pressure numbers is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Familiarize yourself with current blood pressure guidelines and consider purchasing a cuff for at-home monitoring throughout the year. This will ensure you catch on if your numbers creep up.

While blood pressure doesn't always present physical symptoms, there are some common signs of both high and low blood pressure to pay attention to. Headaches, dizziness, and nosebleeds are good reasons to head to the clinic or do it yourself at home.

4. Hormones

Hormones are one of the most complex things about your body. They're also the center of how you feel, look, and function each day. Unfortunately, it's extremely common for hormones to end up out of balance, leaving you out of balance as a result.

Symptoms of hormone imbalance present similar concerns to those presented by the thyroid. There are several options for testing your hormones, whether it's through saliva testing, blood work, or even a strand of your hair.

5. Gut Microbiome

Chances are you've heard a lot about the gut and its microbiome. A healthy gut leads to a healthy body and mind.

Unfortunately, it doesn't take much to throw off your gut's microbiome. It could be due to that round of antibiotics you took last month, because of a poor diet, or because you've been stressed to the max at work. If you're interested in testing your microbiome, there's plenty of information to get you started.

6. Adrenals

Have you given much thought to your adrenals? If not, now's the time to direct your attention their way. Like your thyroid, your adrenals are responsible for maintaining a healthy balance of hormones and general function throughout your body.

When your adrenals are fatigued or sluggish, you'll feel it. A common issue with this is cortisol imbalance, which can lead to sleep issues, anxiety, and weight gain. A simple saliva test can show if you're dealing with adrenal fatigue.

Knowing what to do when you're not feeling like yourself is an essential part of finding your way back to wellness. Never hesitate to pursue more information because it could make all the difference in your life.
