Have you been plagued by mood swings and can't figure out what is causing them? There are many issues that cause mood swings. Here are some causes of mood swings that could be related to your health, and what you can do to fix it.

Mental Health Issues

There are a few mental health problems that can cause mood swings. These include conditions such as bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and depression. There are more mental disorders that can cause mood swings, as well. Mood swings are a pretty common symptom with mental illness. If mood swings are a regular occurrence for you, and you have ruled out any physical issues, then a mental disorder may be the cause. As with any other health issue, you should speak to a professional rather than self-diagnosing. They will be able to give you the treatment you need to address your mood swings. Treatment can include therapy and medications.

Physical Problems

Mood swings can also be a sign of a physical problem. Issues such as low blood sugar, hormone issues, and even brain tumors are a few of the things that can cause mood swings. Like with mental disorders, you need a doctor to diagnose you before you can receive proper treatment. These can include solutions such as insulin for low blood sugar, low testosterone treatments for hormonal issues, or surgery to remove brain tumors. Don't panic about brain tumors just yet, though, as there are many other physical conditions that can cause mood swings.

Substance Abuse Or Medications

Drugs, whether taken for recreation or as medicine, can alter the way your brain functions. It is important to remember that there is no shame in seeking help if you do have an addiction. Rehabs are set in place to help people, not to punish them. If you have an addiction, look for a treatment program near you. If you don't have an addiction and you think your medication is causing your mood swings, talk to your doctor. They will work with you to find a solution such as changing your medication.

There are many causes of mood swings and it often has to do with your health, whether mental or physical. It's important not to jump to any conclusions and to speak to a professional about them. Once the root cause is found, you will be able to get the help you need to feel better.
