How To Have A Smooth Recovery After Eye Surgery

Trusted Health Products

Written By Emma Sturgis / Reviewed By Ray Spotts

Successful surgery can take about 10 minutes, and after that you can rest in the recovery area for a short while as you recover from anesthesia. This can take between 30 minutes to an hour.

Once you leave the hospital, you will be given guidelines for a quick and swift recovery. The recovery can be short and simple if you follow the necessary instructions from your surgeon.

Wear Eye Shields after eye surgery

Eye shields will protect your eyes from accidental touching. Ensure that the eye shields fit well and make you feel comfortable. This will not only protect your eyes but will also promote quick healing. If they do not fit well, inform your doctor.

Maintain Follow-Up Schedules after eye surgery

After the surgery, your doctor will advise you on the schedules you are expected to follow for your eyes' check-up until you recover fully. Ensure you adhere to ocular steroid treatment to eliminate complications and promote your recovery.

Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes after eye surgery

Even though you may feel irritated and want to scrub your eyes, it's advisable to avoid doing so. Your doctor will give you eye drops after the surgery to relieve itchiness and burning eyes. Only apply the drops in your eyes when necessary and avoid overusing them.

Avoid Contaminants after eye surgery

Places that are prone to contaminants include hot tubs, oceans, water pools, and rivers. It would be best if you avoided such places until your eyes recover fully. Additionally, avoid exposure to dusty and smoky environments like cooking areas.

Get Good Rest after eye surgery

Eye surgery may sound simple since it takes a short time. However, it's no different from any other surgery, and you will need to take some time off and rest. The first few days are the most critical to rest and help your eyes adjust to the lens. Keep off phones and other electronic gadgets.

Go Natural after eye surgery

This is the time to keep away your makeup and lotion to speed up your recovery. Avoid applying face products and let your doctor give you the go ahead once he/she feels that you are ready to use the products.

Avoid Heavy Tasks after eye surgery

Be careful with the types of tasks you carry out during this time. It would be best if you avoid strenuous activities that will demand more energy from you. Avoid lifting heavy objects and stick to easy tasks until your eyes recover well.

Following the tips above will help you avoid many post-surgery complications and speed up your healing. If you suspect anything wrong even after abiding by all instructions, do not hesitate to call your doctor right away for immediate action.
