Occasional memory loss is something we all experience from time to time. For example, it’s normal to occasionally forget where you placed your keys, or phone, for that matter. Or, you can forget the last names of your long-lost friend, when you finally meet in the streets.

However, when you find you or your family member/relative persistently forgetting even the most recent information, then that could indicate early stages of dementia. While dementia isn’t categorized as a disease, it represents a collection of signs and symptoms that affects human memory and way of thinking.

Therefore, such conditions can always result from different diseases. That’s said, here are some common signs of dementia and memory loss:

Changes in Moods

Everybody experiences mood changes from time to time. It’s a way our body responds to kinds of situations affecting us. However, if you notice someone showing extreme mood swings, then it could be they are suffering from early dementia. Usually, such people tend to change their moods from happiness to anger or tears without any reason/cause.

Difficulty Performing Simple Tasks

When you do tasks repeatedly, you gain familiarity and experience with them. Therefore, it becomes easy to repeat such tasks. Unless you are distracted, you shouldn’t always forget or face trouble completing familiar tasks.

If you find yourself forgetting to do simple and familiar activities such as feeding your pet, only to remember it later, then that’s an indication that you are developing dementia.

Communication Problems

Communication is one of the most important life skills everybody should be proficient in. It helps us express our thoughts, feelings, and ideas to others. However, if you find yourself struggling to communicate, or to use the right wording when conversing with people, then that could indicate symptoms of early dementia and memory loss.

Poor Decision Making

Have you ever felt sick and avoided making a doctor’s appointment hoping that you’ll soon be fine? If yes, then you aren’t alone. At some point in our lives, everyone makes some poor decisions. Depending on the prevailing circumstances, we do allow our emotions to decide for us, rather than using our analytical and critical thinking skills.

Unfortunately, if you find yourself making poor decisions repeatedly such as wearing warm clothes in hot summer, then it’s possible that this, combined with other symptoms, could be an early sign that you should consider seeking memory care.

Confusion

People living with early dementia tend to appear more confused. When someone’s memory declines, he or she will have difficulties in problem-solving and learning abilities. As such, confusion can easily crop in, and this can be manifested in the frequent misplacement of things. For example, they can put a TV remote in the bathroom.

In summary, dementia and memory loss are becoming a concern today. While there are several diseases causing dementia, experts are working around the clock to address this common problem. If you or your friends/relatives are showing the above-mentioned signs, you should seek medical assistance.
