If you're interested in losing weight, understanding your metabolism is vital. Metabolism is the speed that your body uses energy and burns calories. If you have a slow metabolism, you'll feel sluggish and put on weight. A faster metabolism allows you to eat normally without getting heavy. You've probably heard that muscle burns more calories than fat. If you've lost a lot of muscle tone and are gaining weight, building back that muscle will speed up your metabolism. The easiest way to begin building muscle is through regular weight training.
That doesn't mean you necessarily have to join a gym. Building muscle can be done right from home, and for beginners the process can be started by walking. Later, you can incorporate hand weights to gain muscle and get your metabolism moving.

Foods that contain capsaicin include jalapeno, cayenne and habanero peppers. The more heat, the more calories burned. You can also get a thermogenic effect from other foods that don't contain capsaicin such as cumin, turmeric, curry, horseradish and wasabi.
Drink More Water to shift your metabolism
You already know that drinking enough water is good for you and helps with weight loss. Did you know that it can also boost your metabolism? Drinking water increases your metabolism by 10 to 30 percent and when that water is cold, the effect is even greater. Water also fills you up and helps you digest food more efficiently, so what's not to love about this beverage you can get straight from the tap?
A slow metabolism can take its toll, allowing you to gain weight quickly and making you feel tired when you shouldn't. The good news is that you can begin fixing it today. Starting an exercise routine and lifting weights will get your metabolism moving at an efficient rate. Adding protein to your diet and staying hydrated will increase it even more.
