Feeling and looking young are things people aspire to. Few things can strike as strong of a blow to your self-esteem as feeling and looking old. From the stray gray hairs on your head to the wrinkles forming on your face, it's the inevitable price of time. Luckily, you don't have to feel or look old even if you are aging. Here are natural ways to do just that.

Get Adequate Rest

Never estimate the power of a good night's sleep. Six to eight hours of sleep gives your body enough time to heal itself from the wear and tear of daily activities. Aside from muscle repairs, sleep also allows your brain to repair and strengthen neural connections, which allow better information retention. Adequate rest makes you look more youthful and less tired. It also improves mood, so you're less likely to be cranky on your morning commute. To help your body enter the REM phase of sleep cycle, modify your sleeping environment by dimming the lights, avoiding a heavy meal for dinner, and reducing background noise.

Watch What You Eat

As with any personal health regimen, food and sleep go hand in hand. Some foods that will help you look younger in addition to being healthy include extra virgin olive oil, green tea, fatty fish, dark chocolate, vegetables, and fruits. Legumes and nuts that are high in healthy fatty oils, such as almonds and cashews, are also good for your hair and skin complexion. Fatty fish including salmon and tuna are good choices for its omega-3 oils and protein content, which are good for a healthy heart and lean muscles.

Power Your Diet With Supplements

Supplements are a great addition to an already well-balanced diet. One of the major effects of aging is memory loss. People's ability to retain information becomes less effective as they grow older. Aside from puzzles, reading can help keep your brain strong and agile. All the tips so far have been for the body or mind. To feel young inside, you'll want to nourish your spiritual side as well. Traveling is good for the soul. It offers new experiences that can make you feel younger. Although settling down is one of the more common steps that older people tend to take, set aside time and money to travel solo or with a partner. It doesn't matter where you travel to, just as long as you get out there and out of your comfort zone.
