4 Ways To Take Better Care Of Your Feet

If you take care of your feet, your feet will take care of you. Most people walk at least 2.5 miles each day. Your feet bear the brunt of your weight as you walk. Here are four ways you can take better care of your feet.

Prevent Foot Odor

Sweat and your shoes are what make your feet stink. Germs from your shoes combine with the sweat from your feet to create a bad smell. You can control foot odor by washing your feet with warm water and soap daily.

You should also change your socks daily and wear shoes that let your feet breathe when you can. For ideas, canvas and leather are excellent shoe materials. You can also soak your feet in two parts vinegar and one part water or in strong black tea for 15 minutes to help clean then and prevent them from smelling.

Use Insoles and Inserts

Leg pain and foot pain may go away if you use insoles or inserts. These devices support your foot’s ball, arch, and heal. You can purchase these at a pharmacy.

If your foot condition is severe, you may need custom orthotics that a podiatrist can prescribe. Diabetes and poor circulation are bad signs for the state of your feet. Feeling pins and needles, seeing signs of swelling, or just simply having cold feet can be a sign of bad circulation.

Talk to your doctor and get advice on specific things you can do to protect or help your feet with these conditions.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Wearing the wrong shoes damages your feet. Tight shoes cause ingrown toenails, hammertoes, corns, and pain. Loose shoes can cause calluses, blisters, and sore heels. As you age and grow, your feet stretch and grow too. Shoes that fit 10 years ago might not be the right size for you today.

High heels can damage the bones of your feet over the time. Thus, it’s best to only wear them occasionally, such as for special events or during important engagements. Overall, it’s better to wear comfortable flat shoes for most of the day.

Go for a Walk

This might seem counterintuitive. Remember, the muscles in your feet are like all the other muscles in your body. You must exercise them to keep them strong. There is no weightlifting routine for your feet.

The best way to exercise them is to go for a walk. It does not need to be a long walk but walking for a few minutes each day will improve ligament flexibility, keep your feet muscles strong, and help to prevent fallen arches.

Your feet are what keep you moving and standing. It’s important to do what you can to keep your feet healthy by taking the time to choose the right shoes, wash your feet, use inserts and insoles, and go for a walk. Your feet will thank you in the long run.
