Germs, viruses and allergens that are known to cause illness can be lurking around many areas of your everyday life. If you want to keep yourself safe, it’s important that you take every precaution necessary to lower your chances of getting sick. By taking these four additional measures in your everyday life, you’ll have a better chance of avoiding illness and living a healthier existence.

Be Diligent About Handwashing

Germs and viruses can spread easier and get into your body if your hands aren’t washed regularly throughout the day. You may be especially vulnerable to sickness if you touch something with your hands that’s contaminated and then rub your eyes, nose or mouth.

Washing your hands in warm water with an antibacterial soap can help keep you safe. If you can’t make it to a restroom or kitchen to wash your hands in a sink with soap, you can apply some hand sanitizer to your hands to clean them.

Increase Your Vitamin C Intake

If your doctor approves, you should try to increase your vitamin C intake to make your immune system stronger so that it can ward off illnesses better. Evidence has shown that vitamin C is especially good for preventing the common cold. Citrus fruits, such as limes, lemons and oranges, are among the best sources of vitamin C. You can also try taking vitamin C supplements to increase your intake.

Disinfect Surfaces

Tabletops, countertops and other surfaces that you may commonly touch can be hotbeds for germs and viruses. Dust mites in dust could also be lurking on these surfaces and may cause you to experience allergic reactions.

By applying some disinfectant to these surfaces, you can make them more sanitary so that they will be safer for you to touch. Disinfectant wipes often work well at cleaning surfaces, or you could also try using a UV-C sanitizing pen to get surfaces cleaner with the help of modern technology.

Avoid Sharing Personal Items

Soda cans, water bottles and straws are among the main personal items that should never be shared with other people. Towels, deodorant and bars of soap also shouldn’t be shared if you want to stay healthy.

Germs and viruses from a person’s saliva or other bodily fluids can cling to these objects for several hours and make you sick if you ingest them. You’ll even want to avoid sharing these personal items with your close loved ones.

An illness can strike when you least expect it, but you can arm yourself better if you know how to stay protected. Even a few simple adjustments to your daily routine can go a long way in combating sickness.
