If you have a compressed disc, then you know about it. This can lead to all sorts of chronic back pain that can make day-to-day life difficult. You may hear a compressed disc referred to as a slipped disc or a herniated disc. They all mean the same thing. If you think that you may have this condition, here are four daily symptoms that you’ll likely notice.

Numbness On One Side Of The Body

Your discs make up the spine which is intertwined with an array of nerves. When you have a slipped disc, the disc can pinch a nerve within the spine. This can lead to numbness and pain on one side of the body. If you notice that you’re getting constant numbness, then it’s an indication that one of your spinal discs may have slipped out.

Arm Or Leg Pain

Depending on where the slipped disc is located, you may have pain in the lower limbs or the upper limbs of the body. For those who have a herniated disc in their upper body, they will feel burning or sharp pain in their arm and shoulder. If you have a compressed disc in the lower back, you can feel the burning or sharp pain in your leg, foot, buttocks, thigh, and calf.

Muscle Weakness

If you have a compressed disc, one common symptom that will take you by surprise is muscle weakness. Suddenly the things that you could do in the past with ease are difficult. The muscles that are served by the nerves that run in the area of the compressed discs can become weakened. This can result in an inability to hold or lift an object. In the lower half of the body, this could lead to stumbling of the legs.

Pain When Sitting

While you may think that sitting down can help to alleviate pressure on your body, that’s not always the case with a compressed disc. Things like sitting, coughing, sneezing, driving, and even bending forward, can cause the pain to get worse because there is more pressured placed on the nerve. As more pressure is placed on the disc, it can press harder into the nerve and cause more pain.

As you can see, there are many symptoms that can be associated with a compressed disc. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms on a regular basis, it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor and consider visiting a spine rehabilitation center. You may find out that you have a compressed disc that needs to be addressed.
