An overwhelming number of people live an unhealthy lifestyle putting their lives at risk and under all kinds of danger - physical, mental, and emotional.  Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors put individuals on a road to shorter life expectancy and a myriad of health problems. Blood pressure, obesity, heart diseases, diabetes, and bad cholesterol are some of the serious clinical risk factors caused by an unhealthy life. Persistent adherence to bad living habits can exacerbate these health problems.

A closer look at the World Health Organization (WHO) report reveals that type 2 diabetes makes up about 85 to 90 percent of all cases. It is estimated that diabetes is the eighth leading cause of death. The WHO states that cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. Presently, in India, it is the major reason for morbidity and mortality.

Indeed, the statics are depressing, disturbing, and disheartening. But, we can lay a healthy foundation with Ayurveda, a 5000-year-old system of healing with natural substances that has its origin in the Vedic culture of India. Through the centuries, Ayurveda has surpassed many invasions, and Ayurvedic reinstatement in Kerala - a state situated on the tropical Malabar Coast of southwestern India - can be seen. Tibetan and Chinese medicine has roots in Ayurveda science.

The core essence of Ayurveda is helping its ardent followers lead a life of vitality and health while exploring one’s true potential in life. Providing tips and guidelines on ideal dincharya - daily routine - diet, and behavior patterns, Ayurveda educates mankind that health is a balanced integration between environment, body, mind, and soul.

On a deeper level, it is a science of self-understanding. By understanding your unique body composition, the elements of nature, and their influence on each other, you learn how to interact with the surroundings in the best possible manner that puts you on the path of healthy life forever.

Tridoshas: In Ayurveda, a disease is a manifestation of the imbalanced constitution. The three Ayurvedic body types - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha - determine everything, from bone structure to complex health states. Because we all have a different balance of energies, Ayurveda shows that the concept of optimal health differs from person to person depending upon their body makeup. Every individual has a unique composition of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha – the three doshas or biological energies found throughout the human body. The harmony between the three is a secret to healthy living.

Body Types: The body humor – a system of medicine detailing the makeup and workings of the human body - dictates the structure of a human. If Vata is dominant in Ayurveda, the person tends to be thin, energetic, and light. If Pitta predominates, a person is likely to experience constipation, insomnia, anxiety. And, ruling Kapha results in weight gain and sluggishness. The harmonious existence of these three doshas creates an ideal body structure.

10 Tips To Live Ayurveda, To Live Healthily

  1. Rise With The Sun: This is connected with sleep. If you sleep early, you will get up early. Rise with the sun and fuel your wellness. If you wake up early, you can enjoy the calmness of nature and melody of the birds.
  1. Drink Lukewarm Water With A Pinch Of Lemon: Agni, the Sanskrit term for the digestive fire, is essential in Ayurveda. It views digestive fire – Agni - as a source of life. Weak Agni is the source of every disease. Therefore, the importance of Agni cannot be undermined. Start your mornings with warmth. Drink lukewarm water with a dash of lemon and honey. The acidic property of lemon keeps the digestive tract toxic-free and encourages regularity.
  1. Scrape Your Tongue: We hardly take a look at our tongue. Do check your tongue out in the morning. Your tongue can say a lot about your health. A healthy and clear internal system shows up pretty pink; clogged organs show up as a layer of unhealthy substances on the tongue. Scrape your tongue to get rid of the toxins. Drink detoxifying juice to clear the system.
  1. Eat Fresh Meals: Ayurveda advocates seasonal diet and ingredients that balance the vitiated dosha. Prepare meals that are fresh and infused with Ayurvedic herbs. Eat small servings of green salad along with the meals. Make sure your meal consists of a variety of colors. Lunch is the biggest meal of the day. Consume when you are fully hungry at a proper place and time.
  1. Stay Hydrated: Water is an excellent healer. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Water flushes out toxins and keeps the digestion smooth. So drink plenty of water and intake detoxifying juices that are refreshing and rejuvenating. Herbal tea is an excellent way to relax the system.
  1. Pamper Your Body With Oil Massage: Herbal oil massages are central to Ayurvedic science. Oil massages nourish the skin, remove impurities, calm the nervous system, and nurture the tissues of the body. Oiling the body is the best way to protect it against the ravages of changing seasons, pollution, and more. For Vata, use almond and sesame oil; Pitta - coconut and olive oil; Kapha - sunflower and grapeseed oil.
  1. Practice Yoga And Meditation: Yoga and meditation are the ancient sciences of wellbeing. Both are commonly referred to as sister sciences. They are the wisdom of physical and mental health benefits. Exercising the body and mind is important. Spend a few minutes in yoga postures. Start from beginner yoga poses and work your way to an advanced series. Incorporate the art of Pranayama and meditation. Meditation promotes the release of endorphins and serotonin allowing you to experience happiness and peace.
  1. Go To Bed Early: Sleep imbalances are harmful to the health of the body and mind. Go to bed early and get adequate sleep. Blissful sleep brings you quality rest. When you have deep sleep, you wake up feeling absolutely refreshed and energetic. Insomnia is a serious health concern as well as a harbinger of many diseases.
  1. Detoxification Of The Body: From time to time, go for periodic detoxification. There are Ayurvedic ways to keep the internal and external system clean. Do not allow toxic buildup in the body. Stay clean and stay healthy.
  1. Bond With Nature: We all are children of nature. It is the best healer. Ayurveda suggests spending quality time in nature. Go for walks on misty green grass, listen to the sounds of gushing water, and watch the flowers bloom. Establish a strong bond with nature.
