In addition to being an unsightly problem, crooked teeth could also have a huge impact on your oral health. Misaligned teeth will greatly increase your risk of countless health complications ranging from migraines to periodontal disease. Luckily, fixing crooked teeth is easier than ever, and patients now have a variety of straightening treatments to choose from.

Traditional Braces

Dental braces are incredibly effective, and those devices have helped countless patients treat their misaligned smiles. When the braces are first put on, they can cause a little bit of discomfort, but most patients get used to those sensations very quickly. After a few weeks of wearing braces, the teeth are going to straighten out as the rods and wires gently pull the individual’s smile back into alignment. Unfortunately, many people find traditional braces to be unsightly. They must also be tightened at least once every few weeks, and that additional maintenance can take up quite a bit of time.

Clear Aligners

Clear alignment trays have exploded in popularity in recent years, and they are an excellent treatment option for those who want to avoid traditional braces. Much like metal braces, alignment trays apply a little bit of pressure to the teeth to pull them back into alignment. Whenever the patient would like to eat or brush their teeth, they can simply take the trays out for a short period of time. As long as they wear their trays for at least 20 hours a day, they should continue to notice improvements. They are also going to receive new trays in the mail once every few weeks, and the old trays can simply be discarded at that point.

Veneers

Some patients want to see changes right away, and that is one of the reasons why dental veneers are so popular. These devices won’t pull the teeth back into alignment, but they can greatly improve the appearance of one’s smile. A dental veneer is nothing more than a thin piece of porcelain that is applied to the front of a tooth. Veneers look just like natural teeth, and they are made custom for every single patient. As an added bonus, veneers don’t require any special maintenance or cleaning, and those devices often last for years as long as the patient continues to brush and floss.

You will need to schedule a consultation at a reputable dental clinic to see which of these treatments is right for you. Every dental procedure is slightly different, and your dentist can thoroughly explain the pros and cons of each option.
