Dried And True - Fruit For Thought

Trusted Health Products

Thousands of years ago, sun-dried figs, dates, apples, and apricots became dietary staples throughout the Mediterranean. Dried fruits contain more calories than fresh, but because they don't contain processed sugar or other additives, there are real health benefits to be had in following the example of these Mediterranean forerunners, by making dried fruit a part of your diet.

Dried peaches, prunes, mangoes, bananas, kiwis, gooseberries, papaya, cherries, lychees, black currants, even blueberries, pomegranates, pears and tomatoes - all provide delicious nutrients to perk up your diet and boost your level of vitality.

Potent, Portable, And Powerful
With the water removed, there is a higher concentration of fiber and antioxidants in a serving of dried fruit than in its fresh counterpart. And unlike fresh produce, dried fruit has a longer shelf-life and is usually lighter, requires no refrigeration, is easier to pack, and more portable.

Dried peaches are a tremendous source of vitamin A and iron. Dried apricots and raisins both provide twice the amount of fiber as fresh apricots and grapes, and as we all know, fiber is the locomotive that keeps your digestive system running smoothly. The ever popular raisin is not only full of fiber, but protein, manganese, and potassium.

The level of antioxidants like polyphenols in dates and figs exceeds amounts in the fresh variety and can aid in the fight against diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Dried pears are a delightful addition to a tossed salad and are a great source of vitamins C and K, and iron.

For organic salads, whole grain pizzas, and other delicacies, dried tomatoes are a sweet treat, and a wonderful way to add iron, magnesium, manganese, and vitamin C to your diet.

Dried fruit is a great energy booster when you're working out, providing concentrated healthy carbs and natural fruit sugar, along with potassium and other nutrients to get you going and keep you going.

You can even cook with dried fruit, adding them to soups, marinades, sauces, puddings, and baby food. Look for unadulterated, naturally dried fruit that hasnt been zapped with sulfur dioxide or processed with sugar and other additives. Then enjoy reaping the benefits of this powerful addition to your diet.
