What's So Great About Goldenrod?

Not one of the essential oils that is well known, goldenrod actually packs a punch that should make it more of a household name and readily used in many different instances. It has a wide range of uses and should be a staple in many more homes because it can really help with so many issues.

The goldenrod plant is native to North America but can also be found in specific parts of Europe. Many people confuse the plant with ragweed, which may be the cause of its lack of popularity. Ragweed is a plant that many people happen to be allergic to.

Goldenrod doesn't exist in the same way that ragweed does because its pollen is much thicker. Goldenrod has historical ties to the kidneys and has been used as a tonic for those who have kidney stones.

Urinary Tract Infections And Bladder Issues

It turns out that this plant isn't just great for the kidneys but the bladder and urinary tract as well. Due to its diuretic properties, this oil can stimulate the production of urine which helps to clean out any type of infection in that area. I

Its antiseptic and astringent properties also help to strengthen the urinary tract all together. It helps to improve how those mechanisms work in that part of the body. Putting a few drops on your stomach and lower back will give you this nourishing and healing effect.

Eczema And Acne

Eczema and acne are two skin conditions that can seem downright elusive to those who suffer from them. Sometimes you find something that works but it only does for a small amount of time before the blemishes or itchy clusters rear their ugly heads.

Due to the antiseptic aspects of goldenrod oil, its a great option for skin that is compromised and needs to be healed in some way. It also has the ability to tighten the skin while it is cleaning it because of the astringent components that are laden in the oil.

Oral Hygiene

Interestingly enough, Native Americans actually used to chew the stems of goldenrod plants when they had a toothache because the minerals and properties helped to lessen and alleviate the pain. This is because the elements within the goldenrod actually work to fight oral infections which are usually the cause of oral mouth pain.

Adding a couple of drops of goldenrod oil to water is the perfect gargle for any type of oral infections or pain. Be mindful not to swallow the oil as it shouldn't be ingested. Gargle for a full minute then spit.

Allergies

Few things are more miserable than constantly sneezing and itchy red eyes. Seasonal allergies can be a real pain, they can cause congestion and make it difficult to breath. Inhaling the scent of goldenrod has been shown to help clear allergies and make breathing easier for sufferers.

Whether its a build-up of mucus or wheezing, this oil can be used as an effective way to counteract and ease symptoms. Put a few drops of the oil in the palms of your hands and cup your mouth and nose, breathe as deeply as you can for full minute or two. You'll likely start to feel relief within 10 to 15 minutes.
