The return to more naturally produced ingredients in skin care is everywhere. Whether for environmental, health, or other reasons, there has been a definite increase in people looking for alternatives to some commonly used ingredients. Tea tree oil has become more popular for this reason. It has been used for years for treating things like lice, skin concerns, treatment of minor wounds and injuries, dandruff, and even infections. It can be used as is or added to other products for additional benefits.

Carrier Oil

Tea tree oil can be used easily when mixed with a carrier oil or lotion and applied to the skin. This is the most direct way to use it and can be done at home. Add a few drops to water and apply to red or itchy skin to help with inflammation and clear off bacteria. It can also be used with water in a spray for injuries and infections and will kill the bacteria and clean the area. It can also be used along with other treatments for added benefits. It should not be applied undiluted to the skin for any reason because it can cause irritation or even allergic reactions if not properly diluted.

Skin Rehydration

When addressing dry skin, eczema, dandruff, etc, tea tree oil can help to rehydrate the skin and hair. It can be used in hair products to help remove build-up of old products and dead skin cells. This is a clarifying action that allows the scalp and hair to grow healthy. It also helps to encourage healthy growth when used on already healthy hair and scalp, and will limit new build-up from occurring.

Oily And Combination Skin

The antiseptic properties of tea tree oil can help with oily skin. It can help to keep pores clear and unclogged, allow for the skin to breath and inhibit the production of extra oil. This makes it a great alternative for people who have combination skin as it will help to moisturize the dry or flakey skin areas as well as the oily areas. It can bring evenness and clarity to the whole face and skin. Additional benefits include age-fighting properties to help keep the skin looking young and clear with a healthy glow.

Tea tree oil has been used for many purposes over the years and has seen an increase in usage in recent years. It can treat all skin from oily to dry, skin concerns such as eczema and psoriasis, as well as hair and scalp. With so many purposes it is a greatly beneficial ingredient to have in the home and to use to its full potential.
