Tamanu oil is also known as laurelwood oil as it is created from the laurelwood nut. This oil is traditionally used topically for treatment of the skin and hair.
When used on stretch marks and scars it may reduce their appearance and cause overall improvements in skin hydration, increase the cell growth of cells and boost collagen production. It also adds antioxidants that assist with healing, has some pain relieving properties, and fatty acids that help build and maintain a protective layer over the skin.
To assist in the treatment of acne you can apply this oil to the face and skin through soaps, cleansers or other skincare products. It will cleanse the skin, clear pores of any build-up, and its antibacterial ability will stave off new bacteria growth.
New cell growth with tamanu oil
There is an anti-inflammatory property that assists in clearing the inflammation that causes these dry skin issues to become out of control. The fatty acids form a barrier for the skin to both hold in hydration and keep out pollutants - even the UV rays from the sun - allowing the skin to heal and encourage new cell growth.
These same properties treat scars and stretch marks by providing the damaged skin cells that form the scars the nutrients and supplies they need to grow healthier and for new cells to grow and replace the old. These new cells are less likely to form into scars and this reduces the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Sun protection with tamanu oil
For protection from the damaging rays of the sun, the protective barrier that this oil creates also reflects UV rays and protects the skin from damage. This can lower the risk of sunburn and sunspots, as well as uneven skin tone, but will also add in collagen boosters to help skin maintain its regenerative properties and elasticity. These actions counteract the signs of aging that sun damage causes.
Hair growth with tamanu oil
All the properties of this oil that encourage cells to grow back healthy and boost the rate of the growth, also help to grow hair faster and stronger. Hair grows from cells like any area of skin, and using the oil to clean the scalp and remove all build-up from hair follicles creates an ideal environment for hair to grow.
It also assists in the cells growing faster, producing longer and healthier hair.
The benefits of tamanu oil have been known for years, and used frequently in areas like Polynesia. It has a high level of antioxidants to keep skin and hair healthy and slow the signs of aging, as well as properties to fight acne and skin conditions all while reducing scars and stretch marks and offering a protection from the sun and the damage to skin caused by exposure to sunlight.
