One of the most powerful and awe-inspiring aspects of oil is its ability to do more than one thing. It's pretty remarkable to think that one oil can assist in dealing with depression, cleaning wounds or aiding in respiratory relief. We can get so used to relying on one specific product or entity to have only one use and the beauty about oils is that's just simply not the case.

With St. John's Wort, an herb that has been popular for many decades, its benefits and uses span a long and interesting list. Here's how it can best be used.

Anti-Depressant Qualities

While depression can be very serious and potentially dangerous to deal with, there are different forms and variances of the experience. Some have very minor depression and don't necessarily have to rely on medication to make it through the day.

For those people, trying some St. John's Wort can be the little bit of pick me up needed. It has a rare combination of chemicals that are often found in antidepressants and helps to re-uptake dopamine and serotonin – and allows energy to be experienced more fully and consistently. Try rubbing the oil behind the ears when you're feeling a bit down and gloomy.

Aids Menopausal Symptoms

For many women who exit their childbearing years, the promise of menopause is no conciliation as it can be incredibly difficult for the woman's body to change in such an abrupt and complete manner. Hot sweats, anxiety and mood swings are some of the most common symptoms of women who have to grapple with menopause.

Due to the hormone balancing properties within St. John's Wort, it helps to regulate the huge shift in hormones common for women during that transition.

Anti-Inflammatory

Conditions like gout, muscle aches and arthritis are directly related to the presence of inflammation. Inflammation can often contribute to many different illnesses and chronic ailments. Thankfully, this herb has properties that allow it to be helpful in such situations.

Due to its rich concentration of antioxidants and elements that directly reduce the presence of inflammation, it's great to use directly on problem areas. Make sure to mix a bit of the oil also with a carrier oil like castor or jojoba. It has also been known to help reduce inflammation in other parts of the body like the cardiovascular system. This has a direct correlation to your blood pressure.

Treats Wounds

If you have a scratch, burn, bruise or other wound, this is a great oil to treat it. Not only will the presence of the oil help clean the wound and ensure it doesn't get infected, but also helps to accelerate the healing process and can even mitigate the amount of pain felt in the wake of the injury.

St. John's Wort helps to stimulate the circulation of blood cells that are needed for regeneration. A bruise or cut that would take a week or two to heal can do so in mere days in the presence of St. John's Wort.
