Everything You Need To Know About Anti-Aging

Trusted Health Products

Around the age of 14, your skin begins aging rapidly. The vast majority of premature aging is said to occur during the first two decades of an individual’s life.

Skin aging occurs in two distinct ways: intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging. Naturally, extrinsic aging of the skin can be attributed to external forces, such as smoking, repetitive alcohol use, and excessive sun exposure.

Extrinsic aging can be prevented, by altering behaviors and changing routines, but intrinsic aging cannot be prevented. Intrinsic aging occurs because of the genes you inherit from your parents, and the natural tendency of faces to lose their youthfulness as life progresses.

Causes Of Aging Skin

Our skin is often exposed to harmful chemicals and radiation in the air, as well as pollutants which are capable of giving off free radicals, or chemical species which are commonly defined as one of the causes of skin aging.

For example, UV radiation is one of the biggest contributors to extrinsic aging and skin damage, as it produces oxygen and nitrogen free radicals, which destroy important proteins in the skin such as elastin and collagen. Furthermore, these free radicals trick DNA into replicating incorrect cells, further perpetuating the problem.

While there are other causes of aging, free radicals are your default cause when trying to determine the source of your aged skin. These come from environmental pollutants, smoking, malnutrition, pesticides in food and alcohol and other chemicals in our products.

When free radicals interact with the skin, they begin to dry the skin, cause wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, skin sagging, skin furrows, and elasticity loss. Also, free radicals greatly increase the risk of skin cancer.

Signs Of Aging Skin

Typically, we see the most intense signs of age in the skin around age 50. Eyelid bags begin to form and older wrinkles deepen as new ones form; lines appear throughout the face, appearing near the upper and lower lips and forehead.

Gravity causes sagging of the skin and the muscles, further perpetuating the formation of wrinkly and saggy facial skin. If you experience these symptoms and are interested in what your options are as far as treatment, visit an anti-aging clinic in Stevenage for a consultation with a professional.

Less obvious signs begin in the 20s and 30s as well, such as falling collagen levels marked by crow’s feet and frown lines. Collagen and elastin production slows significantly as the skin ages. With this slowing of collagen production, the strength and durability of the skin are lost. With the slowing of elastin production, the skin simply loses all flexibility, making it difficult for the skin to snap back into place as readily.

Around the age of 60, some people report experiencing blotchy skin with substantial and deep wrinkles throughout the neck, face, and body. This blotching of the skin is as a result of skin pigment cells increasing in number and is otherwise known as senile lentigo, and can be attributed to overexposure to UV radiation.

What We Can Do To Help Anti-Aging

Anti-aging technologies exist such as cosmetic therapies and minor cosmetic procedures, to prevent and/or reverse the aging process. For the best results and prevention of aged and discolored skin, it is crucial to start these efforts before noticing any significant changes in your complexion. The following procedures are common in reducing the effect of age on the skin:

  • Botox

Botox works by freezing the facial muscles. Helpful germs are injected in the muscles, so they no longer contract, and the surrounding wrinkles become less defined. Most of the time, botox is used to soften and relax forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

  • Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to create a “lift” effect on the face; they add volume and thickness to the skin, in place of lost or damaged collagen. Usually, dermal fillers are a great fix and can last anywhere from six months to two years.
