Camphor is an essential oil that comes from trees that are native to Japan and Taiwan which are notorious for their lush and green forests. The oldest camphor trees tend to be the most highly regarded and powerful. The leaves are the part of the tree that are used in the transmitting of oil.

Traditionally, however, the wood and bark were used. There is a bit of a medicinal smell that is associated with the oil that is very distinct. It mixes well with sweet basil, rosemary, lavender and chamomile. Here are some of the great benefits of camphor oil.

Insect Repellent

So often it can seem like a real hassle and an undertaking to get rid of pesky critters. No matter the type of bug problem you may be experiencing, this oil can definitely assist. The aroma that is specific to the oil drives bugs absolutely bonkers.

Whether you are dealing with moths, flies, carpet beetles or mosquitoes, this oil will keep them away. Mix some in a spray bottle with some lavender essential oil and rubbing alcohol. You can spray baseboards, clothing and even the outside of your house. Not only does it repel insects so you no longer notice them, it will also treat and kill bugs that happen to be looming right on contact. Not a friendly oil for little creepy crawlers.

Respiratory Relief

Being unable to breathe due to congestion can be really uncomfortable and borderline dangerous if not dealt with properly. In the event of a cold, pneumonia or bronchitis, camphor oil is the perfect oil to keep on hand. You can add a couple of drops of the oil into a humidifier or a diffuser to fill the room gradually. Or you can rub your chest with a mixture of camphor oil and coconut oil to allow the properties to seep directly into your skin.

Burns And Bruises

Due to the inherent healing properties of the oil, it can be applied to wounds that aren't open, like bruises or burns. This will allow the wound to heal faster and can also help with the pain and soreness that is often associated with these types of wounds. Ensure that you aren't applying this oil directly to an open wound. There are other effective essential oils that can act as an antiseptic.

Pain Reliever

There are components within camphor oil that can be used to ward off pain. Whether you deal with regular aches and pains, arthritis or a chronic pain condition, this oil can help to restore your body to a more aligned place with less pain.

Due to the nerve stimulation that the oil provides it can eliminate discomfort, pain and even the itching sensation brought on by allergic reactions. Dilute a bit of the camphor oil with jojoba oil or apricot oil before rubbing it directly into the area that's causing you trouble. The inflammation that can often be a result of some of these conditions will also be lessened when you use this oil.
