Bleeding gums can lead to larger problems when not addressed. This symptom occurs when there is an increased build-up along the gums, when food particles and debris build-up near the gums, infection is formed, or gums are receding.
Gums may also bleed during and after dental work is done, especially when the repair is along the gum line. To help reduce or stop bleeding gums naturally a salt water rinse can be used, flossing and brushing completed twice daily to reduce build-up on the teeth and gums, antiseptic mouthwash can be used to kill that bacteria that cause irritated and bleeding gums, or oil pulling can be used to try and clear any build-up and return gums to their healthy state.
Salt Rinse for bleeding gums
When gums are bleeding there is often a build-up of either food debris, bacteria, or plaque on the teeth and against the gums. This causes an irritation that can lead to swollen and bleeding gums and even receding gums that risk tooth loss.
A warm water salt rinse can help to soothe gums, remove the build-up from around the teeth and gums, and reduce the swelling and bleeding of the gums. Salt pulls infection from the body and can help to reduce the bacteria causing infections from the gums and teeth when used to rinse the mouth twice a day or after food is consumed.
This can be made at home with table salt added to water and swished around the mouth for one to five minutes.
Brush and floss to prevent bleeding gums
Brushing the teeth and gum line is important to decrease the build-up around teeth and gums, and should be done twice daily or after each meal. The flossing will loosen and remove larger particles and build-up that is stuck to the teeth, while brushing will remove the loosened particles and remove build-up from teeth and gums.
This keeps the gums healthy and removes irritation that causes bleeding.
An antiseptic mouthwash used after brushing and rinsing can help to remove anything that brushing and flossing has missed, and the antiseptic property will kill bacteria that are forming within the mouth. This reduces the chance of infection and keeps the mouth clean and healthy.
The antiseptic can soothe gums, reducing discomfort, plaque build-up, and bacteria.
Oil Pulling for bleeding gums
Occasionally build-up becomes hard to remove and not easily loosened with gentle rinsing or flossing. In these instances oil pulling may help to reach the areas that other things can’t as they are liquid in form and can reach all the small areas and between teeth.
The oil loosens the build-up so brushing can remove it easier and the gums will be less irritated.
Bleeding gums are a sure sign that there is build-up along the gum line or damage to the teeth. To help reduce bleeding in the gums and to stop the irritation there are some natural choices that can be done at home.
A salt water rinse, mouthwash with antiseptic properties - often made with baking soda or essential oils - brushing and flossing with a gentle and natural tooth paste such as baking soda paste, or oil pulling may help to reduce the irritation and build-up allowing gums to heal.
