A beautiful smile is a goal for many people, and there are several treatments available to create one. From whitening procedures to braces and retainers, many dental concerns can be addressed and their appearance altered to fit what each person wants their smile to look like.
Teeth Whitening Dental Treatment
One of the easiest treatments for creating a beautiful smile is whitening. Teeth whitening can be done at home with a variety of products or can be done in the dental office.
Whitening products will remove the stains and discoloration caused by foods and beverages or even just naturally fading of the enamel. They can affect the strength of the enamel so it is important to choose the right fit for each person.
Some are painted on and rinsed off after a few minutes, some come in strips, and others require a light to activate the ingredients and lighten the teeth back to their natural white. When these types of products aren’t recommended a bond or veneer can be considered.
Bond Or Crown Dental Treatment
A bond covers the front of the tooth in a white material that evens out the shape and color of each tooth it is applied too. A crown or a veneer may also be considered, where the entire tooth is covered with this material.
In the case of a crown it is pre-shaped then applied as a cap to cover the full tooth and is shaped to fit with the others on each side.
A veneer is created with a strong material and is placed over the tooth. It covers the entire tooth and will protect it from damage.
Veneer Dental Treatment
If a tooth has been chipped or damaged, a filling can be used or a veneer can be placed over the tooth to cover the chip, close a gap between teeth, or to make the teeth appear whiter.
One veneer can accomplish all of these goals at once by fitting over teeth and creating a straight, even smile where chips are hidden under the veneer so the teeth are protected from further staining and damage.
Braces And Retainers For Dental Treatment
When teeth are crooked or not aligned correctly braces can be used, followed by a retainer to keep the changes made by the braces. In some cases a retainer may be the only step involved.
A wire is created to go around the teeth and push it into the necessary position. It is adjusted every few days or weeks until the tooth has been encouraged into the correct position. A retainer may be required daily going forward to maintain the positioning of the teeth.
Implant Dental Treatment
When teeth have been lost or extracted, a dental implant can be used to support a crown or bridge filling the gap and appearing like the teeth around them. The implant fuses with the jaw and should last a lifetime without need of replacement.
No matter how a smile starts or what the goal is, there are several options for treatment to create a beautiful smile for everyone.
