After your baby is a few months old, you will probably have a few questions about their oral health. Getting those questions answered will ensure that your baby's teeth and gums remain healthy for many years to come.

When Will My Baby Get Their First Teeth?

It is important for parents to realize that every child is slightly different, and there isn’t a specific period when all children have their first teeth erupt. That being said, most parents begin to notice baby teeth between six months and a year.

The upper and lower incisors are usually the first teeth to erupt, and all of the other baby teeth will fill in over the course of one or two years.

Are Dental Visits Necessary for babies?

Even though all of the baby teeth are eventually going to fall out, you must still schedule dental checkups for your child. A children’s dentist will be able to inspect your baby’s mouth to ensure that their teeth are coming in properly.

As a general rule, you should try to schedule the first checkup within a few weeks of their first teeth erupting. You must also schedule a checkup by their first birthday even if they have no teeth.

How Can I Keep baby Teeth Clean?

There are a few different steps that you can take to keep your baby’s teeth and gums clean. Initially, you won’t need anything more than some cold water and a soft washcloth.

With a wet washcloth, you can wipe down their teeth and gums once or twice a day. As their teeth become more pronounced, you will need to switch over to a child’s toothbrush that has a small head.

Are Dental Sealants Worth It For baby teeth?

A dental sealant is nothing more than a thin plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surface of a tooth. The primary purpose of a sealant is to protect the tooth from plaque, tartar, and any other debris that might damage it.

To determine if dental sealants are a good option for your child, you will need to schedule an appointment with your dentist.

If you ever have any concerns about your child's teeth, then you should immediately schedule an appointment with their dentist. While most dental issues aren’t going to cause permanent damage, you should always err on the side of caution when it comes to your child’s oral health.
