While exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays is the most preventable risk factor for skin cancer, 28 percent of Americans admit they rarely or never use sun protection, and 65 percent don’t know that shade protects them from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

While scientists have known of hotspots, until now they did not know of ultra-sensitive hotspots. Researchers  discovered these "hyperhotspots" in the human genome - in locations that are up to 170 times more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation (UV) from sunlight compared to the genome average.
