Regardless of your age, gender or skin type, certain conditions of the skin may affect you at some point in your life. Even though some conditions are known to affect people within certain age groups, you may still develop one or more of these skin problems. If you happen to develop any of these four skin conditions at any stage of your life, the appropriate treatment can relieve your symptoms and possibly reverse the condition.

Rosacea

If you notice unusual redness that appears to be a rash on your face, you may have developed rosacea. You might also notice thicker skin patches and visible blood vessels when rosacea flare-ups occur.

The condition may appear to resolve itself on its own and then flare up again in the future unexpectedly. Rosacea is thought to be caused by an immune system response, and topical creams or oral medications that are prescribed may help treat symptoms.

Acne

Often associated with teenagers, acne can affect older adults as well as younger children. Acne is known to cause blemishes, blackheads and whiteheads to form on the face and other parts of the body because of excessive oil production from the skin glands or clogged pores.

Washing your face regularly and using over-the-counter acne treatment products may be enough to stop breakouts. If self-care treatment methods don’t work, you can visit a dermatology specialist to receive prescription topical or oral medication.

Impetigo

This highly contagious condition is usually seen more in babies and children, but you can still get it at any point in your life. The condition results from strep or staph bacteria that enter the skin through cuts or other skin openings and cause infection. Impetigo often causes sores to form on the face that usually develop around the nose and mouth. Thankfully, antibiotics can be prescribed to treat the condition.

Candidiasis

Candidiasis is a fungal infection that can affect the skin as well as inside the mouth, throat and other parts of the body. When the infection is on the skin, it’s often the most noticeable in the skin folds of the armpits, the groin and behind the knee.

Cleaning your skin regularly can help treat the condition, but you may need prescription antifungal medicine to clear up the condition if you have stubborn skin outbreaks or the infection has entered other parts of your body.

Being aware of these skin conditions and their associated symptoms can help you find the right solutions faster. No matter where you are in life, these skin conditions can occur with little warning.
