Oral health care is not something that is just important for adults. Rather, it is crucial that infants also have healthy oral care in order for their teeth to grow strong and resilient. On top of that, you don’t want your baby to suffer with oral health problems in the future.

If you have an infant and don’t know the proper steps to caring for their oral health, it is important that you learn so that you can give them all of the benefits of a healthy mouth.

The Dangers Of Not Having Oral Health

If an infant does not have proper oral health, they run the risk of suffering from early childhood tooth decay or cavities. Early childhood tooth decay refers to when an infant between the ages of six months to six years suffers from cavities or mouth sensitivity. This can be caused by bacteria in the mouth that can spread, cause inflammation, or even cause infections.

Below are some of the largest contributing factors to early childhood tooth decay:

  • Snacking on sugary foods and drinks
  • Baby bottles with sugary beverages
  • Not brushing their teeth properly and thoroughly
  • Passing of bacteria by kissing from family members

How To Care For Your Infant’s Oral Care

If you do not want your child to suffer from early childhood tooth decay as most parents wouldn’t, there are some steps that you can take to ensure that their oral care is taken care of.

  • Thorough Dental Care

The biggest and most important thing that you can do to care for your child’s oral health is providing thorough dental care. This means that you should brush their teeth daily, floss between their teeth, checking their gum lines for any built-up plaque, checking their entire mouth for food, and making sure to take note of any signs of decay.

  • Drinking Water Between Meals

Because infants’ teeth are more susceptible to decay, particularly after meals, it is important to have your infant drink water to flush out their mouth between meals. It is also important to try to do this without a sippy bottle to help train them to drink without it.

  • Don’t Use A Bottle Before Bed

Because bottles can cause more tooth decay or wear, you want to try to avoid giving them a bottle before bed. This can help prevent their teeth from decay and further problems.

Overall, if you are worried about your infant’s teeth and oral health, there are things that you can do to ensure that their teeth stay happy and healthy. No parent wants their child to suffer from pain and discomfort. If an infant’s oral health is bad, they will end up suffering, so it is important to take the precautionary steps to prevent that from happening.
