Daunting Details About Diabetes

Trusted Health Products

Nearly 30 million Americans have diabetes; that's almost 10 percent of the population.

And of that 30 million, more than eight million of these cases are undiagnosed! That means almost 30 percent of these poor people have no idea whats about to befall them.

A 2012 study revealed that as many as 86 million American men and women are prediabetic! That's 86 million ticking time bombs ready to detonate without warning. And if that's not alarming enough, its expected that by 2025, 300 million people around the world will have it. Experts are calling this epidemic a worldwide crisis.

Hyperglycemia or diabetes involves blood sugar levels that are higher than normal. The most common form of diabetes is Type 2, in which the body doesn't process insulin properly. The pancreas cant produce enough insulin to check the blood sugar levels. Unfortunately and alarmingly, Type 2 diabetes is on the rise.
Lots of junk food and very little exercise helped to create the train wreck that is our daily lifestyle here in America, the result of which is the increased onset of Type 2 diabetes. The risk for Type 2 diabetes increases the older we get, but this is no longer a disease of old age. Its waging a relentless attack on young adults and even teenagers, and the toll it will take on the lives of many of these victims will be crippling.

Type 2 diabetes can drastically increase your risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. Diabetic women are more susceptible to heart attacks than diabetic men.

Excess blood sugar can wreak havoc on tiny blood vessels connected to the nerves in your legs and other extremities; this form of neuropathy can cause tingling, burning, and numbness.

Diabetic neuropathy can also damage the digestive system and it can cause erectile dysfunction. It can cause kidney failure and blindness. Its the perfect storm of systemic destruction.

If you're overweight or if your family has a history of diabetes, you should be aggressive about taking preventative measures. Because obesity is a high risk factor for the onset of diabetes, weight loss and maintenance are of paramount importance.

Forget fad diets and quick weight loss schemes. The results don't last. Work with a nutritionist to develop a healthy, preventative food plan. And incorporate fruits, vegetables, and other fiber-filled foods which can also help you lose weight by making you feel fuller.

An exercise regimen is also crucial. Exercise can actually lower your blood sugar and increase your sensitivity to insulin, which also helps stabilize the blood sugar level in your system.

Diabetes is an insidious disease. Be proactive about preventing it from destroying your life.
