Maintaining impeccable oral hygiene is quintessential for many reasons. It contributes to our overall health and well-being and it makes our whole appearance complete. Steps to a perfect smile include using the right toothbrush and knowing how to use it, flossing on a daily basis, minding the food that stains your teeth easily, using a mouthwash and also trying out some home remedies for teeth whitening. You need to develop a strong oral hygiene routine that works for you and stick to it in order to achieve and maintain healthy and pearly white teeth. Poor oral care won’t only impede your smile but it can also cause heart disease. Read on to learn about how to improve your oral care routine.

1. Brush Your Teeth Properly

The choice of toothbrush plays a major role in brushing teeth properly. It’s important to use a soft-bristled one that fits into your mouth so you can reach all the teeth and clean them thoroughly. A soft-bristle toothbrush is a better alternative since it fits more easily into the gaps between teeth and causes less irritation to the gum. The angle for brushing your teeth should be parallel to your teeth, with short and gentle brush strokes. While brushing every tooth, you should also remember to brush your tongue as well as it harbors small food particles, plaque, and odor-causing bacteria.

 2. Floss Your Teeth Regularly

It’s also essential to rinse your mouth with a small amount of water. You should replace your toothbrush for a new one after three to four months of use. As far as brushing your teeth on a daily basis is concerned, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day: once first thing in the morning and the second time before bed. Why is this crucial? During the day, teeth accumulate food particles and plaque and regular brushing prevents this accumulation, reducing bad breath and tooth decay. Toothpaste will strengthen your teeth and reverse tooth decay.

One of the golden rules for white, healthy teeth includes regular flossing. A wide, wax floss is the best option as it covers a wider surface area, thus allowing you to remove more food particles from your teeth. Flossing regularly means at least once a day, but ideally after every meal. It’s essential as flossing only can remove some of the deepest set food residues. If not removed promptly, these materials can accelerate tooth decay and they can lead to a build-up of tartar - a hard substance difficult to remove. Eventually, the tartar causes bad breath and tooth recession. You should use the floss in such a way to gently rub it between your teeth until it reaches your gum. Sharp and snapping motions can irritate your gums. It’s always a good idea to have several packages of dental floss scattered in your car, office and bag so it’s available to you at all times.

3. Prevent Teeth Staining

The tips on how to improve your oral hygiene include the prevention of teeth staining and application of some whitening techniques. As baking soda functions as a natural bleaching and cleaning ingredient, you can use it as a home remedy to whiten your teeth. You can mix it with water to get a paste-like mixture and brush your teeth with it. You should limit the use of this mixture to once a week. Another homemade option is a mixture of lemon juice, hydrogen peroxide solution, or white vinegar instead of water to make the baking soda paste. There are also many at-home whitening kits available so you might want to try them too to achieve perfectly white teeth. However, if you try all of these, and you’re still not satisfied with the results, professionals from Terrigal Dental recommend a teeth whitening procedure for crispy white teeth, sure to bring your smile back in no time.

4. Use A Mouthwash

An effective mouthwash should be a non-fluoride one used prior to brushing. For most people a better option as far as mouthwash is concerned is an alcohol-free one. By using mouthwash regularly we reduce plaque, freshen our breath and reduce gingivitis. Overall, it complements our overall oral care routine.

It’s important to maintain the health of our teeth and to take proper care of them for the many reasons mentioned. Developing a dental care routine and sticking to it can bring you amazing results. And if that’s not enough, there are dental clinics that will gladly solve any of your dental problems.
