Everyone would like to have perfectly smooth skin, but for some reason it's not always possible to have that. The usual enemies that cause damage to the skin are acne, sun rays, aging and pollution. To have a clear, glowing and healthy skin you need to take care of it properly, and for that, you'll need the right products. There are many available products for skincare. You just need to know what your skin type is and how to find the product appropriate for your skin type and skin problems.

Be careful when choosing a skincare product, because when you use a skincare formula that’s not made and appropriate for your skin type, it can cause some bad reactions and potential issues. In the text below you can find some tips on how to choose skincare products.

Skin Type

The first and the most important step on your way to having flawless and healthy skin is getting to know your skin and what type you have. There are a few types: oily skin, dry skin, the combination of those two, and sensitive skin. It's important to be careful when you're trying to find and buy skincare products, because not every product will give you the long-awaited results since each product is specifically made for a specific skin type. The most common problem that people face is choosing the wrong product for their skin type.

People with sensitive skin and those who have acne-prone skin should be the most cautious and aware of ingredients that are in the skincare products. The ones who have an oily type of skin can consider themselves lucky because oily skin can handle different types of ingredients which can cause redness and irritation to others with different skin types. If you're looking for a skincare product and you're not 100 percent sure which type of skin you have, it's probably a good idea to visit a dermatologist who will help you with that. Once you know your skin type it’s easier to choose and decide which products you need.

Ingredients

We’re often advised to look for an ingredients list when buying food, so why not do the same when choosing a skincare product?  The most important thing before you start reading the ingredients on products is to do your research and inform yourself which ingredients you should avoid and which ones you should look for. Once you know that, you’ll pay more attention to the ingredients list. It’s advisable to look for quality natural cosmetics that will give you the best results you're striving for. These kinds of cosmetics are not only good for your skin and health, but also for your environment since they're cruelty-free and not tested on animals.

Most dermatologists advise that it's best to look at the first five ingredients on the list because those five often make 80 percent of the product since ingredients are often listed in order of the highest to the lowest concentration. So, if you're looking for a product with specific ingredients which are not listed in the first five ingredients, it's not a good idea to buy this product because there's probably just a small percentage of it in there.

Avoid the Hype

People tend to ask their friends or family which skincare products they’re using, especially if they see their skin looks better now than before. Recommendations are good and useful but it’s important to remember the first thing that was mentioned in the text above and that’s the skin type. Not everyone has the same skin type, and just because someone is satisfied with a product they’re using and how it improved the condition of their skin, that doesn’t mean it’d do the same thing for your skin.

So, before you decide to buy a product that your friend is using, remember to consider what type of skin they’re dealing with. This will be a more reliable resource to start with to know how the product will work out for you. Apart from that, an influencer’s recommendation and popularity of products can sometimes be easy traps that most people fall into before checking out the ingredients of the product and whether it’d work out for them.

Summary

Having clear and healthy skin can seem challenging from time to time, especially during puberty when your skin goes wild and usually becomes uncontrollable. Luckily, nowadays there are various skincare products that can help you with almost any skin issues you're dealing with. Before you buy the product, it's important to realize which skin type you have. The second thing you should do is to educate yourself which ingredients you should avoid and which ones you should look for in the product. If there are any other skin and health issues that a product can't help you with, it's advisable that you visit your dermatologist.
