After all that we have been through recently, it is 100 percent OK not to expect much from the next year. But life goes on even in this stressful pandemic and surviving is itself an accomplishment.

If you’re someone who is able to see the light in the dark, we came up with a very simple and easy New Year’s resolution that will not cause any stress. I am talking about drinking eight glasses of clean water in a day.

When you are hydrated, your skin glows and your body functions properly. Plus, you can ditch so many infections triggered by lack of water.

I know it’s not easy for so many people out there so here I am discussing some amazing tips to help you with that.

Understand the importance of water

You’ll never be able to achieve this New Year’s resolution until you understand your body’s fluid needs. As recommended by the World Health Organization, a normal adult person should drink 64 ounces or eight cups, or 1920 milliliters of water in a day.

According to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), men should drink 125 ounces while women should consume 90 ounces of water in a single day. However, the academy acknowledges that the water intake is highly dependent on activity level, location, and health status.

Create daily goals

Things get exciting when you set goals and achieve them. But always remember that goals should be SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound).

Here’s an example of a smart goal:

I will drink eight glasses of water in 24 hours.

You achieve it, now what? Treat yourself! It could be an extra hour on Netflix or a spa treatment at the end of the week. You can set your rewards by thinking about things that motivate you.

Set reminders

Just like you set reminders for your daily office tasks, you can set reminders for drinking water too.

There are apps for that. Some of the best apps that can keep you on track and drink more water are Aqualert, WaterMinder, Hydro Coach, and Drink Water Reminder. For example, set a reminder to drink half a glass of water after every 30 minutes or refill it from Kitchen Water Filters after every one hour.

Keep a bottle with you (always)

You need to keep a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go. Carrying a water bottle can help you drink more water. Yes, you heard it right.

It also serves as a visual reminder for you no matter if you are at work, school, or at a public facility. Plus, having a reusable water bottle is a more eco-friendly option than having a single plastic bottle.

Add some flavor in your water

A lot of people including me dislike the taste of water from Whole House Water Filters. You just need a bit of flavor to drink more of it. If this is the case with you, you have many healthy choices to make your own flavorful drink.

Tried a mint and honey water drink? It’s super-duper healthy and can help you lose some inches as well. Plus, you can try your own fruit combinations like kiwi-strawberry or cucumber-lime that satisfy your taste buds.

Eat veggies and fruits high in water

There are a number of natural foods that contain high amounts of water. So, if you don’t like sipping water again and again, you can eat a salad made of cucumber and celery and help achieve your water goals.

Veggies and fruits that are particularly high in water are:

  • Cabbage – 92 percent
  • Cucumber - 93 percent
  • Celery – 95 percent
  • Cantaloupe – 90 percent
  • Zucchini – 95 percent
  • Honeydew melon – 90 percent
  • Watermelon – 91 percent

You can mix and match them with other ingredients like grilled chicken, corn, and mushrooms topped with sauces and create your full meal. They are super healthy and delicious.

The key takeaway

Drinking adequate amounts of clean water is key to a healthy body. However, it is understandable that you experience difficulty drinking water habitually because of a busy routine, or because you dislike the taste of water, or just because you forget to drink.

With the above-mentioned steps you can overcome these issues and boost your daily intake of water.
