Whether you work a 40-hour week in an office or are a stay-at-home parent or spouse, the struggles and stresses of life can wear on your body. You might have mysterious muscle pains, trouble waking up in the morning, or no energy left in the tank when your day is finally done.

It doesn't have to be this way, though. There are actually ways to boost your energy and your mood, support and heal your muscles, and elevate your overall love of life. It's not a secret potion, just the secrets to a balanced, healthy lifestyle with nutritious foods and helpful exercise.

Eating for a healthy lifestyle

You've probably heard that diet and exercise are the best recipe for a healthy body. Besides following Activated You on Instagram, you can find ideas to keep these balances all over the internet, but the best way to succeed is to find what works for your body.

There are some general nutrition tips you can consider to help develop the best routine for you. The first is to make sure you eat three square meals a day - breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Breakfast is important to kick off your metabolic process, which will help you process food better during the day. You can also keep in mind that you don't have to save large portions for dinner time; you can eat three equally sized meals if you're trying to ward off mid-morning or afternoon snack cravings.

You should also try to plan out the time you eat dinner so it's not too close to when you go to sleep. Having a large meal in your stomach before bed not only contributes to conditions like reflux, it can also make it more difficult for you to sleep while your body works to digest a meal.

Staying away from sugar might be the most important healthy habit when you're trying to be healthier. Not only is it turned into fat during digestion, but it also can contribute to spikes and crashes in blood sugar levels, which can make you feel extremely tired when the initial energy hit wears off.

Instead of reaching for a candy bar in the afternoon, try a pack of mixed nuts or almonds to give you a more stable source of nutrients and hold you over until dinner time. You might be thinking about the sugar you put in your morning coffee and worrying your favorite beverage will have to go, but that's not so. Coffee can actually be beneficial to your health, but make sure not to negate that with sugary sweeteners or unhealthy creamers.

Exercise for a healthy lifestyle

Your body was meant to move, so having a regular exercise routine can go a long way in helping you feel healthy and happy. This doesn't mean you have to run a 5k every day; even just taking a 30-minute walk can have plenty of health benefits.

Regular exercise can help you retain your muscle mass even as you age, and also aids with things such as endurance and balance. Even if you have arthritis or other chronic muscle and joint issues, oftentimes getting out to exercise can ease your pain as your body is able to release the agents causing problems.

If you're not interested in walking or being outdoors, you could even try yoga. This can be especially helpful when you have stubborn muscles causing pain because yoga promotes strength and flexibility, which makes it less likely to strain a muscle during daily activities.

The meditative nature of it can also go a long way in supporting mental health and helping people relax. It's a great thing to weave into your routine if you're interested in pursuing full body wellness.

Finding the right balance of diet and exercise is the most important thing when developing a healthy routine. Keeping these food and fitness tips in mind will help you take the first step to a healthier you!
