Many health professionals believe that the body should be able to fight off any illnesses and diseases that come along. After all, isn't that what the immune system is for? However, if your immune system is not operating at its best, it may need some help.
Here are three things you can do to look and feel your best this winter and in any season.
1. Eat Well To Stay Happy And Healthy Through Winter
Eating right not only makes you feel better, it can even keep you healthy. Have a look at the food pyramid if you haven't studied it in a while. It's changed a bit over the years and you may have forgotten the recommended portions.
Even if you hate to cook, you can still eat healthily. Arm yourself with a good blender and a slow cooker. The blender takes any work out of breakfast. Just pour in yogurt or kefir, some dry oatmeal, and whatever fruits you like or have on hand.
Drink your vitamins, probiotics, and fiber while you get ready in the morning. Cleanup is easy as long as you don't just leave the blender sitting there. Add some dishwashing liquid and hot water, put the lid on tightly and blend. The suds will do all the work for you. Just rinse, and it's ready for another healthy breakfast.
Dinner is also easy. Before you leave for work, put some broth, spices, and chopped-up vegetables in the slow cooker. Buy a loaf of crusty bread on the way home and sit down to a hot and healthy meal at the end of the day. Before you go to bed, have a soothing mug of either green tea or golden milk for even more immunity and other great benefits.
2. Supplement Your Food and Air To Stay Happy And Healthy Through Winter
Because it can be challenging to get all necessary nutrients in food, consider supplements. It's not the fault of your dietary choices, but vegetables and other perishables travel long distances now before they reach you via the supermarket.
Changes in temperature and lighting and even just being stored tend to subtract nutrients from your food. If you are lucky enough to have a farm stand nearby or you can go to a farmer's market, these are better choices for eating more vitamins in the same amount of food.
Otherwise, supplements are great because they fill in any dietary gaps in your life. Try investigating what supplements can do for you by using a Nucific coupon. Powdered supplements can go right in that blender in the morning and the ones in capsule form are easy to take as well.
Also remember that dry indoor air is not good for you. Plants help keep your environment moister, or consider a humidifier, or even an aquarium. The aquarium's water keeps the air hydrated, and watching fish is a very soothing activity. That's why there are so many aquariums in doctors' and dentists' offices.
3. Exercise To Stay Happy And Healthy Through Winter
Try to exercise, even in winter. Walking is great, and as long as you are bundled up, the fresh air and sunshine can do wonderful things for both your body and mind. Exercising, especially outside, clears your head, helps you think through anything you've been pondering, and promotes a good night's sleep.
It also works to destress you. A wise person once said that it's impossible to be upset while you're walking. Why not try it and see if that statement is true for you? If you can't get outside, try following an online exercise video. You should be able to find videos on everything from gentle yoga to Zumba.
Other ways to destress in winter are to take a warm bath or shower, start a new hobby, or surround yourself with indoor plants. Also remember to unplug from any devices at least an hour before bed. Ignore the news and stay out of the blue light your phone emits, and you'll sleep much more soundly.
Try some, or all, of the above tips and this just might be the best winter you've ever had.
