3 Tips For Quitting Smoking

Getting ready to quit smoking can feel a little daunting. You’re going to have to make significant changes to your daily habits, and the uncertainty about how you’ll go about it can be anxiety provoking. This anxiety can be a powerfully dissuasive force, and this fear about quitting is often what holds many people back from kicking the habit.

Even when people want smoking to stop being a part of their life, they’re afraid about how it will make them feel. A great strategy to counteract this fear is coupling your efforts to quit smoking with efforts to improve your overall health and wellness. Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things that you’ll ever do, but it’s probably the single best thing that you can do for your health.

You deserve to start enjoying the benefits of better health right away. Taking steps to be healthy and feel positive will give you something good to focus on and draw your attention away from smoking as well as other unhealthy habits that you want to overcome.

1. Eat Healthy to help with quitting smoking

Some people are concerned that losing smoking will cause them to gain weight. Admittedly, it’s possible that you may put on a few pounds within your first couple months of quitting. There are a couple different reasons for this.

Smoking puts a serious strain on your cardiovascular activity, so much that it actually makes your heart beat faster. When your heart beats faster, it’s possible that you may burn more calories than you would with a healthier heart rate.

In addition, you may find yourself eating a little bit more to fill what you perceive as a void when you’re not smoking. Moreover, without smoke lining your respiratory tract and desensitizing your sense of smell and taste, you’ll probably notice that the food you love tastes better!

While it’s okay to indulge in a few of your favorite rich foods with newfound appreciation, make it a point to do so in moderation. Pick out some healthy foods for most of your meals and snacks throughout the day. Eat a few smaller meals instead of big meals.

3. Get Support to help with quitting smoking

Talking about your efforts to quit smoking can help you maintain a positive outlook. Instead of complaining about how hard quitting smoking is, tell people how happy you are about what you’re doing.

Get support from your family and friends. They’ll tell you how happy they are that you’re making an effort to be healthier and offer inspiring words of encouragement. You may also benefit from joining a smoking cessation support group so you can share your experiences with other people who can relate to what you’re taking on.
