Pumice Stone For Soft, Smooth Skin

Pumice stones have been a part of ancient beauty rituals since 100 BC! That’s over 2,000 years and it hasn’t gone out of style. Made from the combination of lava and water co-mingling, it turns into a porous stone that is ideal for removing dead and dry skin.

Sounds good right? But not so fast! Pumice stones are not ideal for delicate and thin-skinned areas like your face. The best way to use them is on those thicker skin areas on the soles of your feet, palms of your hands, rough elbows, or knees. It is very abrasive so care must be taken when using a pumice stone.

If you use a pumice stone to exfoliate your skin and leave it soft, stick to those thicker areas that are prone to calluses. It can soften them up and buff them into smoother, touchable skin.

Tips For Buying A Pumice Stone

When looking at pumice stones, take a look at the pore size. If the pores are smaller, the exfoliation will be gentler which is better suited for places like your elbows or knees.

The ones with larger pores are ideal for those callused feet and hands because they give the rougher exfoliation your skin needs. There are even double-sized options that give you the best of both worlds. Whichever one you choose, pick the one that fits just right in your hand for easy maneuverability.

Using A Pumice Stone To Soften And Smooth Skin

Before you get exfoliating with your new pumice stone, prep your skin to loosen dead skin cells. Gentle AHAs are an ideal way to do this. Soaking the skin helps too, especially for the feet.

Don’t dry off the areas you plan to pumice though. It should be used on clean, wet skin to effectively exfoliate.

Take your pumice stone and move it in circular motions. Keep going until you can feel the skin is smoother, which only takes a few minutes.

Once you finish, be sure to use a nourishing thick cream to seal in hydration and stop any micro-abrasions. After that, clean the pumice stone thoroughly. A quick rinse with soap and water will prevent it from growing fungus and bacteria, though you must put it in a well-ventilated area to dry.

Not everyone will find satisfaction with using a pumice stone. If your skin becomes sore or bleeds, stop using it.

And under no circumstances should you ever share your personal pumice stone with others. There’s potential to spread dead skin and bacteria from within the pores and that’s just gross.

Pumice stones are a cheap and effective beauty tool that will have your feet, hands, elbows, and knees looking like brand new. Go easy on them the first few times and you’ll soon find softer skin on those notoriously rough spots!
