Good Family Relationships Start At Home

Family is important, and a good relationship with your family isn't something that just happens. It takes work. A solid, healthy family dynamic is something that is built from the ground up, like a home. In fact, many things around the home reflect the family dynamic and relationships of the people in that home.

order for good family relationships

Building a home is all about getting things in order. Traditionally, that has included a pretty rigid hierarchy, but in today's world, that's more about cooperation than command. Putting things in order might mean putting things away around the house, which is everyone's job.

It might also mean putting together a schedule that makes time for fun as well as chores. It also necessitates having your affairs and finances in order. You have to think about the costs of utilities before you can put aside pool cost and other fun expenses.

fun for good family relationships

That said, it's important to set aside time, money and other resources for fun. It isn't much of a home if there's no joy inside. For every hour of cleaning and homework, you need to balance responsibilities with some free time. Your family can bond over doing chores together, but a sense of community is also built through leisure time.

community for good family relationships

Community is what you really want in your home and your family. If you want the other people in your family to support you, you need to support them. A sense of community within your family is the beating heart of that family spirit. You're all in this together, and for the people you share your home with, that's quite literal.

security for good family relationships

However, it's hard to have a sense of community with no sense of security. Make sure that your home is safe for everyone inside. That means having locks on the doors and other safety measures, certainly, but it also means keeping on top of maintenance. A home can be made dangerous by an unlocked door, but it can also be made dangerous by bad wiring, a malfunctioning water heater or even an expired fire alarm.

Be sensitive as well to special needs within your family. Stairs that are in perfectly good repair can still be dangerous to some, whether they are very old, very young, or otherwise disabled. Making sure that your home is safe and comfortable for everyone in your family is a matter of basic courtesy and respect.

respect for good family relationships

Communities are also built on mutual honor and respect. Show respect for your home by keeping it clean and in good repair. Your younger family members will follow your example by keeping their spaces clean and respecting your spaces and your time. However, respect goes both ways. You must show respect for the people around you in exactly the same way they show respect for you.

privacy for good family relationships

Part of that respect comes with respecting privacy. It's very important for children to feel loved, of course, but as they get older they will want privacy from you. It isn't a sign that they love you any less, or that they are losing respect for you, it's just a natural part of their journey towards adulthood. This wraps back around to the first point about maintaining order in your home.

If there is a place for everything and everything is in its place, that goes for people as well as supplies. The office is your place to do work. The kitchen is your place to cook and eat and commune with your family. Your children have their own rooms; those rooms are their places, and even if they are shared, you have to respect the privacy and security of those spaces.

So build a better relationship with your family the same way your home is built. A strong foundation can be added to. Walls and a roof create a sense of safety and security. Doors can be shut for privacy and respect, or opened to build relationships and community. A healthy home makes for a healthier, happier family.
