If you run either competitively or as a hobby, you know how debilitating injuries can be. Even something as simple as a blister or sore toe can leave you hobbling around and missing miles off your usual route. Sure, you could continue to treat the injuries after they happen, or you could stop them in their tracks.

While accidents can be unavoidable, putting some effort into injury prevention products can save your next run.

Specialized Gear

One of the biggest things that'll help you on your next run is specialized running gear. If you know you tend to favor one joint, grab a running brace for it. By taking care of your body while you run, you'll have less recovery to do after you're done running.

Another huge issue for many runners is blisters and chafing. Things like running half tights and chafing sticks can wick away your sweat from where your body rubs together and keep you from dealing with that pain. Just preventing that small issue can make a huge difference in your next run.

Another huge part is making sure that your gear is suited for you. Most importantly is arguably your shoes. If your shoes don't fit your body, stride, and running style, you could be facing tendon and joint injuries and soreness with every step.

Making sure that your shoes fit you and are supporting the type of running you're doing is incredibly important to keep the injuries away. Different shoes are better suited for track versus trail, so grab the right pair for your preferred training type. By getting gear that supports your body in the ways it needs extra support, you can help to avoid injury before it ever happens.

Recovery Aid

Of course, injury prevention doesn't stop as soon as you get off the track. Taking care of your body as you're cooling down and recovering from every run is crucial in maintaining your health. One of the best ways you can do that is by stretching and rolling out your sore muscles.

By making sure you aren't dealing with cramps and tears, you can train harder and run longer without having to worry about being in constant pain.

If your joints are more of an issue than your muscles are, KT tape might be able to help you. This tape supports your joints and tendons and acts as a brace to keep you from straining yourself as you recover. A big benefit of this tape is that it gives you much of the same support as a brace does without the bulk, allowing you to function in it.

Many athletes have found that wearing it on both their recovery days and on race days helps to minimize soreness and help to prevent injury. For those joints that just won't stop creaking, give them some extra support with joint tape.

Vitamins and Supplements

Finally, one of the best ways you can support your overall health is from within. By keeping your metabolic health strong, you can make sure your joints and muscles are getting all the nutrients they need to function at their highest ability.

Vitamins and supplements are a great way to help balance out any gaps in your nutrition and bolster the areas where you need some extra strength.

If you don't want to worry about taking a handful of pills every day, it's easy to find supplement mixes that have all the nutrients you need. These are often water-soluble, so you can mix them in with your morning coffee or juice and be on your way.

Powdered supplements are great for people who are too busy to worry about a full med rotation and would rather just grab something and run out the door. If you want to keep your muscles and joints functioning their best for your entire career, make sure your nutrition is right.

Overall, injury prevention should be a priority for every runner. By taking the time to prevent injury early, you can save yourself the headache of dealing with repetitive injuries for the rest of your life.
