The saying, “You are what you eat,” resonates with many people, although some do not agree with it. If you have been struggling with your eating habits, it is time for you to look at other food sources to replace your unhealthy ones. The good thing with these options is they taste so good it makes healthy eating fun.
1. Switch Fried Potatoes for Air-fried Potatoes
If you love fries, you know just how hard it is to quit eating them. The number of calories in these fries makes it hard for you to lose weight. If you still want to enjoy your fries, there is a way you can work around it.
The first thing you can do is get an air fryer and instead of deep-fried fries, throw them into the fryer. They taste just as good and have less oil. You can also choose to have oven-baked fries, which cuts down on the amount of oil used on them.
2. Take Frozen Fruit Chips Instead of Potato Crisps
Another thing that might look like it’s okay but is unhealthy is potato chips. While thinner, they are still fried in oil, translating to lots of calories. The best way to go about this is to get oven or freezer-dried fruit chips.
You can either make them yourself or buy freeze dried apple slices. The alternative is healthier and filling, and you don’t have to worry about gaining weight or increasing cholesterol in your bloodstream.
3. Get Smoothies or Sorbets in Place of Ice cream
Ice cream is known as comfort food, especially when you are having a bad day. While it is not bad to eat ice cream, too much of it can lead to immense weight gain. If you still want something cold and sweet, switch to fruit sorbets and fruit smoothies. They taste just as good without all the fat. The good thing with this choice is you customize everything to your taste.
4. Switch Chocolate Chip Cookies for Oat Cookies
If you are craving a cookie, you can always have a healthier alternative. A single chocolate chip cookie contains more sugar than your recommended intake. With oatmeal cookies, you do not have to worry about sugar intake. You get a healthier cookie that tastes just as good as the sugary version.
5. Take Dark Chocolate Instead of Milk and White Chocolate
Chocolate is known to have many benefits. Top of the list is, it is a great mood booster. The only issue with most chocolates on the counters today is they are laden with sugar and not good for you. If you still want to enjoy your chocolate, go for 100 percent dark chocolate. It has all the perks of chocolate without added sugars, which is a huge plus.
6. Buy Granola Instead of Candy Bars
If you feel hungry when on the move, chances are you will take a candy bar because it is compact and easy to carry around. While it might give you instant energy, the rush will end after a while, and you will need to eat another bar so that you can go on with your day.
Get a granola bar instead of a candy bar to deal with this. Other than giving you energy, it is more filling, so you will not get hungry right after.
7. Switch To Wholewheat Bread Instead of White
Bread is a staple food in many households and forms a base for many dishes. If you cannot do without bread, you can switch to the healthier alternative, wholewheat. It is less processed, and you get all the benefits of whole wheat.
8. Use Avocado Instead of Butter on Toast
The thing about staying healthy is you get to a point where you know that not all fats are bad. For instance, avocado has fat, but it is very good. If you love to spread something on your toast in the morning, then you should try avocado instead of butter. It reduces the amount of bad fat your take into your body.
Healthy living is not as hard as many people make it out to be. All you need to do is find the right alternative for you, and that way, you still get to enjoy food without worrying about tipping the scales too much.
