Varicose veins are something that many people attribute to old age. While that can sometimes be the case - and increase the likelihood of them appearing - ultimately those unsightly little protruding veins are a symptom of many things. Included below are the ways in which we can prevent the occurrence of varicose veins. Although often seen predominately on the legs, sometimes they can even be found on the arms and hands.
Varicose veins are caused predominately from lack of circulation and muscle tone, so the first recommendation and the most obvious, is to increase the type of exercise that you are doing. Specific types of cardio like biking, jogging or the elliptical, are great ways to improve circulation and muscle composition.
It's also important to note that including cardiovascular activity and watching your diet do go hand and hand. Increasing your activity level and neglecting to monitor what goes in your mouth will likely not yield the results you want.
Eliminating excess sodium from your diet is a good idea if you want to prevent the onset of varicose veins. Also incorporating foods that are high in fiber is advised. Drinking plenty of water will not only improve your internal circulation, it will also help flush out stubborn fat and toxins that may cause the unattractive protruding veins. All these things will help in managing and maintaining your weight, which in turn will potentially prevent the occurrence of the veins.
Beware Of The Potential Cost
The next suggestion may be hard for some of us to take, especially if you deem yourself a fashionista and are up on the latest trends and styles. But unfortunately, those who wear any type of tight hosiery or high heels can be at a greater risk of suffering from varicose veins.
This is because those two things in particular can be incredibly restricting to the lower regions of the body. This ultimately aids in cutting off circulation and leading to those pesky protruding veins. This is a sacrifice that many people are unwilling to commit to, as a high heel is such an imperative fashion item. But beware of the potential cost.
Another way to help prevent varicose veins is to elevate your legs. This helps the blood flow reach the necessary regions of the body that may suffer from being inadvertently cut off. This is especially important for those who have sedentary jobs where they sit for extended periods of time.
Varying the position you stand and sit at regularly will help aid the circulation throughout the body and promote blood flow to all the necessary areas that may suffer from any type of restriction.
Overall, its important to realize that numerous tactics may help to prevent the appearance of those bulging colorful veins. Although none of these are guarantees toward varicose vein-free legs, they are a good way to prevent the likelihood or the prevalence of such veins. Increased circulation is a key component common amongst all of the suggestions included above.
