Have Uncomfortably Visible Veins? Here Are The Treatments You Should Consider

If visible veins are visually or painfully uncomfortable, there are treatment options. The best choice depends on the type of veins (spider, varicose, etc.), appearance (color, length, amount, location, etc.), and severity of discomfort and pain. The answer also depends on whether you want natural healing, surgical healing, or alternative treatments. Regardless of choice, there should be an improvement in appearance and discomfort.

Natural Remedies

None to low discomfort and/or very few visible veins can begin with natural remedies. Self-care solutions like exercising, massaging, eating healthier, elevating your legs, uncrossing your legs, and wearing loose-fitting clothing can ease the appearance or discomfort of visible veins.

Try to reduce or eliminate prolonged standing or sitting in one place at work and home. Lastly, wear flatter shoes and fewer high heels. An alternative solution is wearing prescription or non-prescription compression socks.

The Surgical Solution

Although results vary, surgical options are options for veins with high discomfort and/or large veins. Although the sealing process differs, endoscopic vein surgery, vein stripping and ligation, and phlebotomy procedures remove veins surgically via an incision.

VenaSeal uses medical adhesive to close the vein and reroute blood to healthier veins. Alternatively, facilities such as the Advanced Vein Center offer a Microphlebectomy surgical solution - known as stab avulsion - that removes veins through an incision. Most of the surgeries require anesthesia.

Alternative Treatments

Low, medium, and acute discomfort or a moderate amount of visible veins may benefit from choosing between a laser, catheter, foam, or an injection. An incision may be necessary for some of the options, but the cut and/or scars are minimal. ClariVein is a catheter treatment that relies on chemical and mechanical methods. Varithena uses foam to collapse veins.

Endovenous lasers use ultrasound as a guide to target the vein from the inside. Laser therapy stops veins on the outside. Sclerotherapy injects a sclerosant solution into veins through visual imagery or ultrasound imagery. Radiofrequency treatments use radiofrequency energy to scar and close the vein. Anesthesia is unnecessary for most procedures.

This article lists the different options available for people dealing with visible veins on their arms, legs, hands, feet, and body. For personalized results designed for your situation, it's best to listen to your doctor's advice.

Let the doctor analyze the veins, ask questions (answer them honestly), and pick out solutions to suit the situation. Fortunately, nearly all of them allow outpatient treatment so you can rehab at home after the procedure. Just be sure to continue routine checkups with the doctor to ensure everything is fine.
