Eliminate Cold Sores Naturally

Trusted Health Products

Not only are cold sores unsightly and embarrassing, they can also be incredibly painful. Cold sores are usually seen on or around the mouth, and are fluid-filled breakouts that are hard to cover or conceal. They tend to last for at least five to seven days and occur in different developmental phases. They often crust over, break open or ooze - not something that anyone wants to see or experience first-hand. The good thing about these pesky sores is that they can be eliminated quickly by taking specific natural measures. Here are some options to choose from.

Lemon Balm

This natural element, a part of the mint family, will help to heal the blister in a shorter span of time. Lemon balm is also known to aid in the prevention of future outbreaks. Using a lip balm with at least 1 percent lemon balm is suggested for the overall health of the lips.

Lysine

This is an amino acid that is available in both cream or pill form. Studies have shown that this element will both clear up breakouts and help to prevent further flare ups. There are properties in the amino acid that work directly with the immune system to fight the virus that causes the cold sore to begin with. The healing properties in the supplement also work topically on any current breakouts.

Change Your Toothbrush

While this won't necessarily shorten the length of a current outbreak, getting rid of the toothbrush, also disinfecting or getting rid of lip balms and lipsticks, is a must. This lessens the likelihood of another breakout significantly. These types of products can hold onto the virus and inconspicuously cause it to return not long after a breakout clears up. This can unfortunately become a vicious cycle that's terribly difficult to break. Changing anything that comes into contact with the mouth is strongly recommended.

Vanilla Extract

Yes, you read that right. It may sound completely ridiculous, but many people swear by this remedy. It likely has something to do with the alcohol base of vanilla extract, but a dab on the cold sore twice a day jumpstarts the healing process. When using vanilla extract, the length of the outbreak and severity are diminished significantly.

Peppermint Oil

This oil is a known remedy for cold sores as it kills the virus particles that sit and fester on the wound. Bacteria from the air and the hands can cause the sores to get worse or cause more to appear. Peppermint oil quickly kills the growing bacteria and puts the body in recovery mode more rapidly. It's suggested to treat the very beginning stages of a cold sore with this remedy as it can even stop the sore from growing further.

Witch Hazel

Similarly to peppermint oil, witch hazel has been known to curb the onset of any type of cold sore. The bark of the North American witch hazel has been used in a medicinal form for decades and has since become more popular because of it's widespread effectiveness. It can also be used on bruises, acne, insect bites, and blisters.
