The New Year is the perfect opportunity to evaluate habits from the previous year and set goals to prosper in the year ahead. The key to goal success is maintaining progress and making changes that will better your day-to-day life.
This can be done by assessing what in your life needs TLC and then setting a doable timeline to make those changes possible. Here are a few ideas to get you started!
Gain Mental Clarity
When you don’t mentally feel your best, it is easy to feel like the tasks of life are piling on top of you leading to negative thinking. But even more so, negative thinking has been scientifically linked to physical health problems.
This year, make a resolution to actively combat negative thinking. This process is called cognitive reconstructing and has grown in popularity due to medical research. A helpful first step to get started is creating a gratitude list. This takes little time and when practiced regularly can make all the difference.
Start your day off on a positive note by writing down five things you are grateful for. When you have a bad moment in the day or catch yourself thinking negatively, refer to your list and read them out loud to yourself. This can even be taken a step further by adding to the list when you are feeling negative!
Make Financial Improvements
Now more than ever home ownership is a popular personal goal. Whether you are starting a family and need a space to settle down in or you just want the backyard your dog deserves, it is important to look at the houses that fit your needs and see what steps you need to take to get there.
Obtaining a mortgage pre-approval is the first step to understanding where you are financially and what it will take to get what you need. The pre-approval will tell you how much you will get approved for in a loan and give you a realistic idea of what price range you can start looking into.
This process looks at your income, assets and credit score to determine this number. Purchasing a home has many financial benefits that benefit you in the short and long term.
For many, in 2022 a mortgage payment is the same if not less than a rental unit of the same size. Instead of paying a landlord, you pay yourself all while building equity and your own credit score in the process.
Set Fitness Goals
While “going to the gym more often” comes to mind first when making physical health resolutions, healthy eating habits and exercise go hand in hand. The misconception about healthy eating habits is that many believe they need to completely remove certain foods from their diet or that they must eat less.
Setting goals that are geared more towards a lifestyle “tweak” will be more successful than crash dieting. Making little changes will make a large impact and you will be more likely to maintain the adjustments. Start with replacing one ingredient for a healthier option by trying these snack alternatives and recipes for healthy living!
The tips mentioned above are three examples of where you can start to make 2022 your best year yet. Becoming healthier mentally, financially and physically will put you on a path to improve any additional areas in your life you may have neglected over the past year.
Keep in mind that progress doesn’t always happen overnight, but if you work hard to improve upon these things, the results will come with time.
