Itchy Skin Causes And The Solutions You Will Want To Know

Trusted Health Products

If you've ever suffered from itchy skin, you've experienced that irritating and uncomfortable feeling that makes you want to start scratching. This may be the result of a rash or a condition like psoriasis or dermatitis. It may also be the symptom of a disease like kidney failure or liver disease.

Detergents and fabric cleaners can also cause itchy skin because they are strong lipid dissolvers and have a natural tendency of dissolving your skins healthy oils. Air fresheners, laundry detergents and floor polishes are also included and with regular use can even cause irritation and cracked skin. One thing you can do at home to help prevent itchy skin is to follow these skin care routine tips.

Use Natural Moisturizers

Containing only one ingredient, petroleum jelly is very gentle on your skin - applying a strong chemical-based moisturizer may aggravate the condition. Some great natural moisturizers include almond oil, avocado oil, argan oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, hempseed oil, jojoba oil, macadamia nut oil, olive oil and rosehip oil. So be sure to use a natural moisturizer that is very mild on your skin.

Wear Gloves

You should always use gloves for cleaning, washing and any work where you use your hands frequently because they protect your skin against harsh materials and fight skin irritation. Remember to use the right gloves for the job being performed because not all gloves are suitable for all jobs. For sweaty conditions, use cotton gloves to absorb sweat. Use protective gloves for dipping your hands in parts cleaner. Use heavy-duty fabric gloves for gardening and heavy work. Use disposable gloves made of polyethylene or vinyl for food preparation. Avoid natural rubber latex gloves that are powdered because they can cause an allergy.

Use Hand Sanitizers

Hand washing is also an important part of your skin care routine especially for eczema and contact dermatitis sufferers. Make a point of buying only hydrating hand sanitizers or use alcohol-based hand rubs or soap substitutes, which are less irritating than normal soaps and are preferrred for people with dry or damaged skin or those who have eczema. Soap-free washes include wipes, Neutrogena, Hamiltons wash, Cetaphil cleanser, Dermaveen shower and body oil, or Ego QV wash.

Clean Off The Chlorinated Water

Another serious skin hazard is pool chlorine because it dries your skin, burns your hair and leaves your skin in shambles. Use a shower cap for your hair and shower immediately when you come out of the pool to clean the chlorine burned skin. Clean your skin with chemical-free water every time you come out of the pool by taking a shower. Make sure your kids shower right after they come out of the pool with a mild soap and apply generous amounts of glycerin-based moisturizers on their skin.

Take An Oatmeal Bath

Oats are the best natural moisturizer you will find in your kitchen cabinet and and they are proven to cure itchy skin. Oats contain avenanthramides, which fight inflammation and redness. To ensure maximum moisturizing capacity of oatmeal, take an oatmeal bath. Grind oatmeal in a blender and sprinkle it into the tub with running water. Soak for at least 15 minutes and rinse.

Enjoy Oily Fish

Omega-3 fatty acids - found in oily and fatty fish like trout or mackerel - have natural anti-inflammatory properties and increasing the levels of omega-3 can have a beneficial effect on existing itchy skin sufferers. There is also anecdotal evidence that psoriasis has a low incidence in countries with high intake of omega-3 in their diet. Oily fish moisturize your skin from inside and also provide your skin internally with essential anti-aging fatty acids that hydrate your skin and clear away the damaging effects of the outdoors. Ask your doctor how you can incorporate oily fish into your regular diet and ensure that there is an effective anti-aging mechanism in effect that fights your skin-aging problems.
