The Coronavirus crisis has been challenging for all of us. The consequences are visible in every segment of our lives, and since the most valuable asset of every person - health is directly endangered, as well as the health of their beloved ones, the anxiety and the stress level continue to rise.

For that reason, undertaking all measures to secure the working areas and physical and mental health of your employees will be of tremendous help in an attempt to reduce the consequences of pandemics.

Respect All the Measures that Can Protect the Health of Your Employees

The very first thing every business owner should undertake is updating the risk assessment according to the risk of coronavirus. This will help you and your employees to understand the best way to work safely and protect each other.

After you introduce your employees to the regulation of this risk assessment, the next steps are related to organizing your working area and meeting all hygiene standards to protect everyone. Here is what you should do.

Social distancing

In case your type of business does not allow remote work, make sure that the working area your employees share is completely safe for them. Provide at least two meters distance between two people, and organize temperature checks before entering the company building.

This way, you will reduce the possibility of infection at a minimum. Also, make sure that vulnerable workers have additional protection, such as separate office space, or stay in a room with fewer people.

Intensify cleaning of working areas and insist on high hygiene standards

Make sure all rooms are properly and in-depth cleaned daily. Disinfect all critical spaces like locks, toilets, and equipment regularly. Encourage your employees to do it by providing them with cleaning supplies, as well as with disinfection gels for washing hands, alcohol, and other disinfectants.

Also, encourage them to wash hands more often by putting informational posters all around the working area and advise them not to shake hands with other colleagues. Instead of shaking hands, you can think of a special way to greet your colleagues that will keep the working community in solidarity and aware of the potential threat.

Ventilation and air conditioning rules

Good ventilation is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of coronavirus within the office. For that reason, you should inform them about the necessity of more frequent ventilation, and ensure that the windows will be opened at least twice in 30 minutes. When it comes to air conditioning, make sure to change the filters and acquire the disinfectants, and also, don’t forget to ventilate the rooms.

Employees’ mental health can also be affected

There are various ways the mental health of your employees may be affected during the pandemic, and for that reason, you should explore the best methods to prevent any serious consequences. This is especially important because, as the latest National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing reports, one in five Australians, or 20 percent of the population, experienced some kind of mental disorder without pandemics stressors.

Knowing this, it becomes quite obvious why you should be aware of various stressors:

  • Job uncertainty
  • Disruption of the daily routines
  • Fear of losing the job
  • Fear of infection
  • Loss of purpose
  • Anxiety about what the future is going to bring

That can negatively affect your employees’ well-being and mental health. And these are only a few of the problems people face. Since the majority of the workforce was directed to working from home, their daily routines are completely changed.

They spend the majority of time in the house, working or taking care of their children, which leads to a decreased amount of free time for relaxation and an increased probability of family conflicts and even more stressful situations. And as many pieces of research suggest, more stress means a weaker immune system.

For that reason, you should do everything in your power to support your employees by facilitating everyday workflows. Regular and clear communication, presentation of plans, accurate information on what is happening with your company are factors that can help your employees to get through the crisis easier.

Social distance is another big problem everyone is facing. Since the communication through emails sometimes can seem too authoritative, consider using video calls that will let you see your interlocutor in an online environment. Although nothing can change live communication, using video calls is still the closest thing we have to be in a room and talking to someone.

How to be 100% sure that your employee is ready and safe to start with work?

Aside from coronavirus prevention, some professions imply that you will need to undertake even more safety measures to assure your employees are protected and ready for work. If your business entails working at high altitudes, for example, you’ll need a drug test kit to provide the possibility to check your employees before they start to work and make sure they are completely alcohol or drug-free.

Cannabis, ecstasy, amphetamines, and even painkillers are elements that drug tests can successfully detect. This way you will be able to reduce to a minimum all work-related accidents, increase the safety level, and make more productive workplaces.

What Else Can you Do to Make Sure Your Employees Will Stay Healthy During Pandemics?

Promoting and reminding your employees to respect all the measures, wear masks, wash hands regularly and lead a healthy lifestyle are the best ways to encourage them and make sure you did everything to help them stay healthy and safe.

Because this is the only way we can influence the pandemic to come to an end and one day live without any restrictions. Be an example of responsibility, and stay determined to meet all the prevention regulations, and your collective will stay healthy and safe.
