In January, the Department of Health and Human Services announced results from a report that showed staggering percentages of dental fluorosis among US adolescents. Over 40% of those age 15 and younger suffered from the condition that is a result of overexposure to fluoride, a chemical that when added to drinking water and dental products is supposed to protect the teeth. The actual results are pitted, stained, mottled, and brittle teeth- which is exactly the condition that settlers teeth were in when fluoride was originally discovered in the early 1900s. Because of these study results, HHS and the CDC both recommended that levels of fluoride in the public water supply should be reduced. As a side note to this, they also recommended that any infant formula that was either in powder or liquid for and to be diluted with water should not be mixed with fluoridated water. As of 03/10/11 they have announced that the formulas themselves contain fluoride, and that when mixed with fluoridated water they can contain toxic amounts unsafe for anyone, especially infants.
Even with the reduced levels of fluoride present in water, the American Dental Association published in a 2009 journal a study that says that even the reduced levels are too high. Their study states that most infants from birth to age 12 months sho consume predominantly powdered and liquid concentrate formula are likely to exceed the upper tolerable limit of fluoride if the formula is reconstituted with optimally fluoridated water. Even the US Environmental Protection Agency has gone on record with their fluoride information page as saying Exposure to excessive consumption of fluoride over a lifetime may lead to increased likelihood of bone fractures in adults, and may result in effects on bone leading to pain and tenderness. Children aged 8 years and younger exposed to excessive amounts of fluoride have an increased chance of developing pits in the tooth enamel, along with a range of cosmetic effects to teeth.
Paul Beeber, who is the President of the New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. stated that even though the numbers have been reported regarding adolescent dental fluorosis …no one is studying US children with dental fluorosis to learn whether they also have fluoride damaged bones or any other fluoride induced health problems… and Absence of evidence shouldnt be misinterpreted as absence of harm. Hes absolutely correct, because until the revelation that these formulas already contain fluoride before theyre mixed with water it didnt seem to be a concern.
Evidence continues to mount from official channels that fluoride isnt as safe as once thought. Especially with the admittance of levels in water being to high as is. Fluoride is the only medication being circulated among the public whether or not there is need for it. It is also the only unapproved drug that is not only readily available for use by the public, but forced upon it.
