Weight loss and healthy weight maintenance are a battle for many people. However, by making small changes to your activity level and your eating routine, you can make weight loss easier by boosting your metabolism. Your ability to burn off weight will make it easier to maintain a healthy energy level.
Change When You Eat
Try to leave at least 12 hours for your body to fully digest what you've eaten and to get out of the fed state. During the fed state, your body is storing nutrients, but it's also storing fat. To keep from snacking in the evening, brush your teeth right after dinner. Drink water in the evening, but don't allow yourself to eat unless you're actually experiencing tummy rumbles.
If your schedule requires you to eat a late supper, try pushing your breakfast time back a bit. While you can go ahead and have your morning coffee, even with a bit of cream, consider bumping your breakfast meal itself back far enough to allow you that 12-hour window.
Change What You Eat
Often, our favorite foods are simply the ones we've gotten used to. Familiar flavors become beloved flavors, so if your favorite treat growing up was chocolate, it will comfort you. Try to change what comforts you into what makes you feel empowered.
For example, if you love breakfast foods but tend to overdo it on high-carb products like syrup on pancakes, changing up your plate even a little bit can still give you the sugar rush you love. Fix yourself an omelet or scrambled eggs with cheese, then have dollar pancakes aside. One or two small pancakes with the required butter and syrup will still be a treat, but they don't have to create a huge insulin spike and send you into a nap.
Any food plan that says "never again" to a favorite food will eventually fall apart. If you love chips and salsa, plan a meal around this favorite snack. If you truly love chocolate, schedule your treat in the middle of the day and try to get in a walk afterward to burn up some of those calories.

For those reducing their food intake to lose weight, beware of the statement "I'm starving!" Getting too hungry will make it far too easy to lose control and overeat whatever is in front of you, which will be very hard on your gut and may make it hard to recognize when you're full.
To avoid the risk of bad choices, try eating six small meals daily. Instead of thinking of them as small meals, think of them as a healthy snack. Each small meal will need a
- healthy fat
- protein source
- high fiber carb
Focus on nutrients with each small meal; fresh fruit can serve as your fiber, while chicken or salmon can serve as your protein and fat, depending on the preparation.
There are many unhealthy things you can do to lose weight, but keeping it off will take better choices over the long term. Build muscle to help your body burn more fat at rest. Make logical food choices that keep you out of that starvation zone, and try to let your digestive system rest.
