Does a wrinkle-free complexion ensure that a person will look younger? What really makes you look old is a face with aging spots, and if you have age spots, you may look older than you actually are.
Aging spots are brown marks on a persons skin that come from accumulation of excessive melanin and are usually an aftermath of a lifetime of excessive sunlight exposure. They are also very hard to get rid of because, unlike conventional skin problems, age spots are an accumulation of skin pigments and milonocytes - and require a lot of attention.
Age spots, also referred to as sun spots and liver spots, are completely harmless and look like flat yellow or brown discolored areas on the skin. They can appear on the back of your hand, which is the area most exposed to sunlight. The face, neck and chest areas are also more susceptible to this problem.
Age spots typically appear after the age of 40. If these marks change color or texture, you should consult your doctor immediately because that is a possible symptom of skin cancer. In the vast majority of cases though, liver spots pose no threat and require no treatment, though they occasionally have been known to obscure the detection of skin cancer. However, despite being a benign condition, liver spots are sometimes considered unsightly and some people choose to have them removed. This can be done by electrosurgery, laser treatment or cryotherapy.
Besides sun damage, age spots can be symptoms of dietary imbalance and nutritional deficiencies too. These spots have acquired the term liver spots because they occur as increasing toxicity levels develop in the liver, which the body is unable to cleanse. If the oxidation process in a persons body has accelerated for some reason, then this condition may develop. Increasing anti-oxidants in your diet can reduce chances as well as concentration of age spots on your skin.
Age spots are created over a long span of time so their cure also requires some time to take effect. Natural remedies are effective treatments, but they require time to work, so be patient for a few months. Also use sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15 as a preventive measure to stop age spots from appearing.
Natural and herbal products are strong and effective if used properly. Even most synthesized products have natural extracts as their base product and build on it with artificial enhancers and stabilizers. Following are some natural remedies that help with the problem:
The healing plant Aloe Vera - the best friend of skin - has also been found to cure burn marks. Apply this gel twice a day on the spots and leave it for 45 minutes. You can also apply it at bedtime to lighten age spots while you sleep.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Drinking apple cider vinegar with water also speeds up the age-spot removal process. Pour three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink. Follow the tip twice daily for a month and you will see a healthy glow on your skin along with a spot-free skin.
You can also apply a teaspoon of lemon juice mixed with apple cider to your skin twice a day to also reduce age spot appearance.
Speaking of lemon juice, it is a strong cleansing agent due to its citric acid - and is known to reduce the spot marks and make them look less severe. Just rub fresh lemon juice on the age spots at bedtime and wash off in the morning.
Just like lemons, the vitamin C from onions is also a natural skin lightener and you can also rub onion juice on the age spots twice a day.
Onion juice also mixed with apple cider vinegar is also effective in reducing age spots. Apply it for 30 minutes once a day and continue for six weeks.
With these simple home remedies, age spots can be decreased to a negligible level and with constant care, they can be completely cleared out.
